Truffle Hunting at Senses

apr1806_senses
The Senses Cafe has good sweets. My sweet tooth is HUGE and I need a good fix on a regular basis to maintain some form of sanity.

They have cakes and gourmet gingerbread and flourless chocolate cookies and the list goes on and on.

But the thing I love hands down are the truffles. Some of their offerings are stupid expensive (but well worth if for a sugaraholic), but you can get a two-pack of super yummy handmade truffles for $3.

I know most of the costs at Senses is in the packaging (it's gorgeous!). But darned if that stops me from getting my champagne and cognac truffles on a more-than-regular-basis than I like to admit.

Desperately Seeking Employment

Dear Ask blogTO,

I am currently unemployed and seeking employment. I know there are a variety of websites dedicated to job searches but with all the choices and listings it can be a little overwhelming. I don't want to have to search through the literal hundreds of listings yet don't want to miss out on anything that might just be right for me. Plus I keep hearing about the "hidden market" that is out there somewhere just waiting to be discovered. Also, I have heard that employment agencies can be helpful. Is there an easier way to navigate through all of this and is one necessarily better than the other?

Odouriferous Co-Workers

Hi there Ask BlogTO,

I suffer from migraines and headaches which are often triggered by strong scents. There are 2 co-workers that wear too much cologne/perfume in the workplace. This can trigger a migraine or upgrade a headache to a full blown migraine. Although I have mentioned it to them directly, I don't think they understand the impact or effect it has on other people.

We also share phones and one co-worker's cologne gets all over the phone, and then all over me. It's quite intrusive, and really affects my ability to function at work.

What is the best way to solve this problem and are there any legal workplace (ie. MOL) steps that can be taken?

Sincerely,
Nauseous and not likin' it!

Ask blogTO,
Why is it that automobile tire manufacturers are still allowed to label what should be labeled 'summer' tires (with no effective traction in the snow or ice) as 'all season' tires? Shouldn't this be a major health and safety issue/concern for the masses?
- Julian

Hey Julian,
Transport Canada and the Rubber Association of Canada have standards regarding the classification of tires. In colder weather, "all season" tires are adequate for conditions down to approximately -10C and are maked "M + S" for "mud and snow" tires. On the Transport Canada site discussing WInter Tire Safety Tips, there is a statement saying that the "all season" tires "may not always be suitable for severe snow conditions".

Throughout the years, all my Ryerson grad friends have talked at some point about Ernie the Hot Dog man.

So when I got an email today from one of them about Ernie retiring after 25 years of serving up hot dogs and wit outside the university, I wasn't suprised that it got coverage in the Star.

I'm personally not familiar with Ernie. But after hearing so much about him, who knew Ernie isn't even his real first name?

Too Much Stuff & I Can't Stop Buying

Dear Ask blogTO:

I have a lot of stuff and it's getting to be a little too much. Not only that, I like to buy stuff. Even when I don't need it and I sure don't have the space for it. I don't have any self-control and things are piling up. It's getting really hard to get around my place.

I can't have people over anymore because there's no room for them and it's embarrassing to have to always explain why I have all this stuff.

It's totally out of control and I don't know what to do. I spent a lot of money on a lot of the stuff and I know they're worth something. But I look around at all of it and I don't know what to do.

Is there anything you can suggest?
