This past Thursday night, the 2012 Gourmet Food and Wine Expo kicked off with a preview, although the weekend-long event properly begins today. This was my first time at the event, so the concept of an expo at the Convention Centre had me picturing stark florescent lighting, and people walking around in bacon costumes. Eat & Drink
Soupstock 2012 draws huge crowds in culinary protest
Why sit around and simmer when you can do something about it? On Sunday, thousands of hungry soup lovers toted in bowls and spoons to support Soupstock 2012. The culinary protest featured 200 top-chefs soup creations to bring attention to the proposed Highland Mega Quarry. At $10 for three bowls it was a stellar liquid lunch. This past weekend, two extreme, endurance-testing sports descended upon Toronto: a 42-km marathon and the Smoke's Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship.

Toronto food trucks get praised at AwesTRUCK
Toronto's food trucks are dishing out lobster, tacos and pulled pork. But where do you begin when you're pressed for time on your lunch hour? Fortunately, Food Truck Eats has made the decision process a little easier with their inaugural AwesTRUCK awards ceremony. The event held at the Evergreen Brickworks showcased eight finalists. And while each one is a great addition to Toronto curbside cuisine, it was surprising that a few notable vendors like Buster's Sea Cove, Gourmet B1tches and Caplansky's were missing from the roundup.
