Sante to Win Friends and Influence People

The crowd at the Sante wine sampling

This Saturday I went to the Sip, Savour & Preview for Santé: Toronto International Wine Festival . As a son of wine parents I developed a taste and vocabulary for wine early on which was surprisingly impressive at parties: "This is... oaky. And... fleshy." So it's with some trepidation that I would be exposed to actual experts during the course of this sampling, which was was held at the castle of liquor that is the Summerhill LCBO.

We Love Brings the Love Tonight at the Gladstone

We Love from the front

This Friday I'm heading to The Gladstone to see my friend's band, We Love, again after seeing their show last month. In Toronto out of university it seems like all of my friends and their dogs were in an indie band at some time or another; I've had to attend so many shows of incoherent guitar strumming and mike lambasting that my compliments had dwindled down to "you seem to really feel it!" or "nice lighting".

Adam Matak's Exhibit Reads Like Really Smart Comics

Adam MatakFriday night was the opening of Adam Matak's latest art exhibit in Toronto, Secondary Sources at the new Walnut Gallery on West Queen West. Even walking up to the glass-encased gallery I see some of sharply bright paintings peeking through the crowd. I walk up to chat with a few people I know as a pretty girl behind me skewers my ankle with her heel, more than slightly drunk while I mentally curse the open bar and blaring hip hop like the nerd I am.

Brunch at Eleven

Eleven Restaurant TorontoA new Indian fusion restaurant takes over the space of the previously well-known Golden Griddle (and later Ninth Gate) at Front and Jarvis. Brad Moore is the chef at the helm freed up from the closure of Xacutti.

LFW Fall 2008: Rudsak

Rudsak
As we were herded in to take our seats for the second-last show of the week, my friend from Hugo Boss lamented the fact that his company didn't have a presence at LFW. I pointed out that it's hardly a Canadian brand but I wondered where Toronto's fashion week is going. How do we possibly compete with the global powerhouse fashion cities? Are we Torontonians just deluding ourselves?
