Cheap Caribbean Eats at Bloor and Dufferin
In the world of Toronto cheap eats it's tough to find better value than Teekam's Taste, a new Caribbean restaurant near the corner of Bloor and Dufferin. Go for the jerk chicken (above) or their oxtail roti served unwrapped with smooth chickpea and green pea curry. But don't leave without one of their cheap and tasty potato pies.Read my full review of Teekam's Taste in the restaurants section.

Brunch on Church St.
Located at the northern end of Church St., Lola's Commissary offers modern interpretations of traditional brunch fare as well as a wide variety of lunch and dinner items. I was pretty impressed by the egg dishes, but it was the French toast stuffed with cheesecake that blew me away.Read my review of Lola's Commissary in the restaurant section.

Chocolate Ball Goes Retro But Stays (Mostly) Pure
The 50's-themed Chocolate Ball held at the Palais Royale on Friday was the final event of a week of activities in conjunction with the 4th annual Toronto ChocolateFest. From savoury to sweet, liquids to frozen treats, the ball was a deliciously indulgent evening. Foodies and adventurous eaters satisfied their taste buds while raising money for a charitable cause. All food stations were sponsored and all funds raised from tickets ($150) to the silent auction were donated to the Ava Rose Fund, a chairty supporting neurosurgery research at Sick Kids Hospital.

During a recent visit to Veritas on King East, I had the chance to test if my taste buds could pick up the difference that locally sourced ingredients make. Despite a few highlights, inconsistency from dish to dish leaves me still seeking my answer.Read my review of Veritas in the restaurant section.
