The MachetesNXNE is always one of my most hectic weekends of the year. It's three nights in a row of packed clubs, racing between venues to make the next show, and of course, amazing music.

On night one, I checked out Moja, Machetes, and Hell Yeah Fuck Yeah.

Antenna hdtv television toronto
The Toronto area is one of the best places to be in North America for getting OTA (over the air) TV signals. You just have to know how to harness these signals, and over 18 high definition channels can be yours free.

Of course, nothing is ever completely free as you do have some prerequisites. What you need is a newer HDTV that has a built-in ATSC tuner, or you can invest in getting a separate receiver unit. If the built-in receiver is not getting you enough of a signal there are a few inexpensive options available. A small indoor UHF antenna should dramatically increase signal strength. These are not so easy to find these days, but a few calls to a good television retailer should get you one.

A big plus for receiving these signals in the GTA is having a south-facing window or deck. Most Canadian signals are broadcast from the CN tower, so line of sight will help a lot. Additionally, almost all of the available US signals are coming from the Buffalo area, so point your antenna there.

Buck 65,Danforth music hall,.jpgBuck 65 played at the Danforth Music Hall Friday night, with openers Skratch Bastid and Cadence Weapon. I arrived a little late, but just in time to see Skratch Bastid out on the stage warming up the near full venue.

Bastid is one gifted DJ - his turntable trickery is unmatched by almost anyone. He did a great one-man show for all to see in detail on a video projection screen.

The stage was set up with hand-drawn cardboard cutouts resembling the New York City skyline and a large screen was centered right in the middle, with video being projected on to it from behind the stage. Off to the side, a second video camera was honed in on the turntables at all times.

Skratch Bastid is coming to The Drake this Friday night to cure your fix for some serious Hip Hop and Turntablism trickery. Even in the middle of a cross Canada tour with Buck 65 and Cadence Weapon he finds the time to play his monthly residency at The Drake Hotel.

Having known Skratch Bastid aka Paul Murphy for about 10 years from my underground party promoting days back in Halifax I was able to track down the nomadic member of the 1200 Hobo's and get an interview out of him.

This was my first time going to Wrong Bar even though it is only two and a half blocks from my apartment. Mr. Scruff was going to play and I was ready to check it out.

The inside of Wrong Bar is all right. From the plush leather couches and spacious dance floor to the Rockola 488 juke box and vintage 8ball deluxe pinball machine. I was treated like a regular by Gani from Milk, the promoter and my new favorite beautiful bartender Gillian.
