This Week in Film rounds up noteworthy new releases in theatres, rep cinema and avant-garde screenings, festivals, and other special cinema-related events happening in Toronto.

Need a tip for something fun to do this weekend? I've got more than just the tip for you. Darryl's Hard Liquor and Porn Film Festival. Don't let the name fool you--the fest is not a hardcore pornographic event. It's actually a very silly, and sometimes sexy, short film fest that features hilarious parodies, mockumentaries, music videos, brilliant animations, and live action shorts about sex or anything else naughty. It's safe enough that you could bring your mother, if she hadn't already agreed to be my date.

The 16th annual Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival is a unique showcase of contemporary films and videos by East and Southeast Asian filmmakers in Canada, the U.S., Asia, and all over the world. Suffice to say that Reel Asian has something for everyone.

Now that Toronto After Dark has wrapped up it's 7th annual film festival, it's easy to say that this was not only the biggest, but the best year they've ever had. Here are my personal highlights.

My favourite film
When I selected 5 under the radar films at the Toronto After Dark Festival I'm glad I had what turned out to be my favourite film, In Their Skin, on my list. This film was extremely unsettling. The classic story of a country home invasion in the middle of nowhere, heightened beautifully by the fact that the invaders don't want to simply rob the family, they see them as perfect and want to become them. Slowly it's revealed how wrong this assumption is, as we get a peak inside the dark baggage each of the damaged characters carries with them. This is a must see for me. After Dark was heavy on the comedy this year, and only two films really gave me a scare.

Unlike his trademark martini, my interest in James Bond was recently stirred. The exhibit Designing 007: Fifty Years Of Bond Style has just opened in the gallery space at TIFF Bell Lightbox and runs through January 20, 2013.

The reigning king of genre fests is back as the 7th annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival gets under way tonight. Starting Thursday October18, this year there are nine days of insanity at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, which finally has a liquor license! Now that After Dark attendees can double fist tall cans of Big Wheel, I expect they'll be twice as rowdy as the Midnight Madness crowd.

Don't forget, Saturday October 20th is the Toronto Zombie Walk, so after you've eaten your fill of brains head straight to [REC] 3: Genesis and stay for Cockneys vs Zombies to take advantage of the discounts for those made up as zombies.
