The new Pie Shack in the Beaches offers both sweet and savoury pies with awesome crust, plus unimaginable enthusiasm (for pie). They just opened this week, to much early praise - and are quickly learning about supply and demand as a result.

The new Naco Gallery Cafe in Brockton Village has a diverse mandate. They offer up great coffee, Mexican food and desserts, and the space doubles as a gallery for the work of local artists.

Koreatown has a new bakery with awesome banana bread. And with fast and reliable wifi it's a great place to hang around and do work in because the space is comfortable and the coffee is good.

The neighbourhood frenzy that is Dundas West has a new (but old) place to relax with coffee, tunes and baked goods. Alyssa and I checked out the new Ezra's Pound (of the south) this week while we were in the area for Contact.

A rainy day trip to a bakery in Leslieville was almost ruined when we found it was closed. Thankfully, we remembered hearing about a tiny gem, called Altitude Baking, that has all kinds of excellent sweet-tooth-satisfying goodies. And much to our delight, it was open.

It's breakfast at Patachou in Rosedale. I'm eying the pricey, stuffed Portabello, but don't want to go broke satisfying a fleeting craving. And besides, there's so much more deliciousness to choose from. Sipping on my bottomless coffee, we opt for croissants, pizza, and bostock.
