Indie cafes clash on Ossington
A new coffee destination has opened in the old Get Real Cafe space on Ossington and it has a familiar name. As the second location of Leslieville's popular Te Aro, this alternative to the sparse I Deal Coffee a block north means that allegiances for local indie cafe favourite are now being staked.Read my review of Crafted by Te Aro in the cafes section.

The Red Rocket keeps getting better
The Red Rocket is amazing! It's better than the original! Prices are good, nobody's sleeping on the job and there's free WiFi throughout. No, sadly, I'm not referring to our much maligned local transit system. Instead, the subject at hand here is Red Rocket Coffee - the once Leslieville-only cafe that recently opened its second location near Wellesley and Jarvis.Read my review of Red Rocket Coffee in the cafes section.

A gourmet tea shop opens at Queen and Parliament
Queen and Parliament isn't the first place you'd think to put a gourmet tea shop (inside a high end decor store no less) but that's exactly what the neighbourhood now has. The name might be familiar to some - it's a licensed location of the original Steeped and Infused in Leslieville.Read my review of Steeped and Infused Tea Bar in the tea section.

Frozen yogurt battle: Mon Berri vs. Blushberry
Let me just get one thing out of the way first - what is the big deal about Frogurt? Sure it's fun to say, but it's not as good as ice cream, and chances are you're eating it because you don't want the guilt associated with the trip down 31 Flavour Lane. Maybe you prefer the taste of non-fat vanilla to say, "World Class Chocolate" (to which I question your sanity). I'm an ice cream girl all the way, but with a few futuristic looking shops opening up in the city last year, I had to wonder if I'm missing out on some kind of über-food, one that possesses a mysterious ability to satisfy my sweet tooth, but not undo my tepid attempts at exercise. Since my personal bias for ice cream is established, I feel qualified to enter the mysterious world of Fro Yo as a curious and neutral observer. Let the battle begin!

The Drake's ice cream shop now open
It might just be here for the summer but the new Drake ice cream parlour and t-shirt shop finally opened this week a few doors east of the hotel. On the menu is an assortment of Metropolitan ice cream, toppings like graham streusel and corn flake crunch and sauces such as bourbon caramel. There are mojito popsicles and ice cream cookie sandwiches too.Read my review of Drake Scoops + Tees in the ice cream section.
