Annex community CentreIt's not every day you hear about chess tournaments, art exhibitions, hula-hoop lessons, psychotherapy seminars, language classes, and theatre rehearsals all happening under one roof. Yet this is exactly what's been going on for nearly three years in a re-purposed 1950s church on Bathurst street.

Kristyn Wong-Tam galleryBefore Kristyn Wong-Tam was elected to City Council, her professional activities ran the gamut from real estate, to running a coffee shop, to founding an art gallery just off the beaten path of Queen Street West, neighbouring Ward 27, her electoral district. That gallery has undergone a few changes, but still stands as a reminder of Councillor Wong-Tam's commitment to the arts.

It's no surprise, since the story of the G20—described by the exhibition's accompanying text as "Canada's largest mass arrest"— has captivated Torontonians of all stripes, and the related portraits are sure to recall the controversy surrounding the protests that weekend.

Luis Jacob MoCCAFor some, the title "Pictures at an Exhibition" might conjure a leisurely walk through an art gallery on a relaxed Sunday afternoon. For artist Luis Jacob, the phrase gestures to an investigation into artmaking and poses a question as to what belongs in a gallery. "Pictures" evokes passive observation, but quite the opposite is happening in the gallery.
