Metric Turn Into Rock Stars
Metric returned to Toronto's Mod Club (the place that held their first Toronto headlining sold out show back in January 2005) - and they returned as rock stars. I'd been waiting for them to play the Mod Club since they exploded with 'Live it Out', so I was extremely excited about their performance on April 14th.What had stayed the same and what had changed since their first Mod Club appearance? Sure Emily Haines might sport blonde hair now, but other than their appearance, something else has changed - the crowd.

Brides Improvise in Tight Quarters
When I got the invite on Facebook to a Brides show, I couldn't refuse - even if it meant squeezing like a sardine into the Press Club. A showcase with two other psychedelic rock bands - Place Hands and Into the Other; Brides still managed to take the medal. I've seen these guys a few times now, but there was something different about them on this particular Friday night...Into the Other played a heavy instrumental set with wild effects, and Place Hands kept the crowd's attention glued to the stage, but there is something about Brides that draws the audience in the room every time they play a set.

The Darcys Play a Sauna
Maybe it was because they hosted the event themselves, or because their live performances are so tight, but Thursday night the Darcys conquered the Whippersnapper Gallery. I got to the place a little late - so I (unfortunately) missed three other band's sets. I was actually there to see a Toronto favourite, Black Hat Brigade. When I discovered I'd missed their set, I was on the verge of leaving. But when I heard the Darcys playing from outside of the gallery, I decided to stay and support the melting sauna that the Whippersnapper had become. Music
Lisa Hannigan's Debut
Lisa Hannigan left her mark on Toronto Sunday night at the Mod Club. A friend of mine had introduced me to Lisa's music when her album was still only available overseas, and I instantly loved it. I think everyone left the venue that night with their jaws a little dropped. Music
The Birth of a New City
The Rivoli offered a line up of four bands Thursday night at Public City Presents! to celebrate the launch of a new music promoting company called Public City. Emily Feist and Jenny High, the two local founders of PC, really know how to host an event for a crowd of hungry music lovers. I was glad I hadn't eaten before I got to the place because waiting for me were platters of pizza and trays of delicious cupcakes. So I was already won over before even hearing the performers. Music
Rise of the Undead Disco
Who said that the undead couldn't rise in February? The Augusta House was filled with bloody-faced zombies and DJs last night for the horror-themed 'Night of the Living Disco.' It's about time that we celebrated zombies on a month other than October, and what better way to spend reading week than on a misty dance floor with ghouls around you? The party exceeded my expectations. I assumed that this would just be any other Kensington event where alcohol and music play the main role of attraction, but I was mistaken.
