Posted by Casandra Campbell / December 8, 2011

TIFF Subscription SeriesTIFF has announced three new subscriptions set to launch in February 2012. The series — Food on Film, Books on Film, and Science on Film — will each feature six screenings followed by a guided discussion. Subscriptions are currently on sale for TIFF members and will go on sale for non-members on today. A couple of the series include offers for free stuff for those who sign up early, so interested parties may want to act fast if the incentives prove enticing. 5 films to watch at the Ekran Polish Film Festival

Posted by Casandra Campbell / October 21, 2011

Polish Film FestivalThe third annual Ekran Polish Film Festival starts tonight at the Revue Cinema in Roncesvalles. The focus of this festival is on quality rather than quantity, so while there aren't dozens of films to choose from, the selections all come highly recommended. I won't be able to spend the entire weekend there, so I've narrowed down the list to my top five.

5 films to watch at the 2011 Planet in Focus Film Festival

Posted by Casandra Campbell / October 11, 2011

Planet in Focus Film FestivalThe 12th Annual Planet in Focus Environmental Film Festival starts tomorrow. With over 80 films, it's Canada's biggest environmental-themed film festival, and it all takes place right here in Toronto. For five days, films will be screening at a variety of downtown locations, including those with a little bit of Hollywood punch, like The Whale, which was produced by Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson. There will also be lots of Canadian content — not surprising given the topic. The following are my five must-see screenings from the festival.

TIFF Today: Jeff Who Lives at Home, Breathing, I'm Carolyn Parker, A Happy Event, The Patron Saints

Posted by Casandra Campbell / September 15, 2011

TIFF Toronto FilmsWith only a few days of TIFF left, we're in the home stretch, but there are still a couple big ticket events and first-time screenings to be had. Tonight's gala event will see the premiere of Hysteria, a Tanya Wexler film about the invention of the vibrator. The film, which is headlined by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Dancy, and supported by Jonathan Pryce and Rupert Everett, sold out long ago. Today's options for the last minute planner, however, are still pretty darn good. There are plenty of great films screening today with tickets available — including a red carpet gala!

TIFF Today: God Bless America, Dark Horse, Sony Pictures Classics 20th Anniversary, Your Sister's Sister, Cuchera

TIFF moviesToday at TIFF there are several exciting events from the Mavericks programme with Francis Ford Coppola and Tilda Swinton both in town. Sadly, I doubt I'll get to those since they've gone to rush and I'm not already in line. However, there are quite a few quality films and events today that still have tickets available. If you're still recovering from last night's TIFF party/Midnight Madness screening and don't want to stand in line all day, give one of these a shot.

Coppola, Swinton highlight TIFF Mavericks Programme

Posted by Casandra Campbell / September 9, 2011

Tilda Swinton TIFFOne of the things I love about TIFF is the Mavericks Programme. It's a great opportunity to watch films about amazing free-thinkers, some of whom have had a large impact on the world. The programme is particularly fun because it places an emphasis on having conversations with the featured Mavericks in addition to showing films. This year, a number of new films will screened and many discussions will be had in a lineup of Mavericks that is sure to be inspiring.
