The best new fashion stores in Toronto offer one of the more diverse collections we've seen in a while. There are three menswear stores (!!!), a designer consignment shop, and even a couple of concept stores. That's the best thing about Toronto - there's always an unexpected trick or two up its sartorial sleeve.

Now that there's only two weeks of Christmas shopping time left, get thee to one of the city's best holiday pop-up shops, LUST (Let Us Style Toronto). The one-day sale does have impeccable credentials: it was organized by The Fashion Collective, the crew who shot new life into Fashion Week last season with a spate of hot young talent.

Want to shop for Toronto designers without having to brave the heinous winter cold and swarms of holiday shoppers? Ukamaku is your one-stop online shop for Canadian fashion.

"We realized that fashion designers were great at what they do--fashion design--but there were other aspects such as marketing and e-commerce that they needed help with," says co-founder George Ng.

Ukamaku means "that's it!" in the Aymara language, a language spoken by a native ethnic group in the Andes and Altiplano regions of South America. Says Ng: "We want our customers to visit our website and realize 'that's it!': that's the item I want."

Some of the best fashion designers working in Canada today call Toronto home. Damn, are we ever lucky. Well, naturally - the Big Smoke is arguably Canada's fashion HQ: we have the biggest Fashion Week, the Holt Renfrew flagship store, most of the fashion magazines, and dozens and dozens of well-edited stores.

The One of a Kind Show is a staple every Christmas season, but it's not just a one-stop shop for for Xmas prezzies: it's one of my favourite places to pick up clothes, accessories, and jewelry from independent Canadian designers, too. Don't be fooled by the driftwood dolls and wacky peppermills: the show is flush with fashion.

As I wove my way up between the seemingly endless aisles of the Direct Energy Centre (seriously, traversing the whole thing is practically a work-out), there was some stand-out designers, including a few Toronto classics.
