 Land of Talk TorontoLee's Palace hosted Montreal's Land of Talk on Thursday night to promote their second album Cloak and Cipher. The crowd at Lee's was the first to witness live performances of select tracks from Cloak and Cipher, which was released at the end of August by Saddle Creek Records. Creating the album was no easy feat: lead singer/songwriter Elizabeth Powell wrote the album during a six-month recuperation from vocal chord surgery.

Flying Lotus's celestial landing at the Opera House

Flying Lotus live Toronto"No ins and outs" is what I heard the security guard say as I entered the Opera House on Friday night to check out Flying Lotus' triumphant return to Toronto. That was perfectly fine with me, since I did not want to miss a single moment of musical genius that I was about to witness.

As soon as I bought a beer at the bar, mymanhenri and Ultragamma started their tag team routine of hip hop jams and dubstep bangers. The two Toronto natives went back and fourth spewing out bass-heavy tracks that smashed into my skeleton and made me move involuntarily.

Ra Ra Riot at The Mod ClubIf you purchased The Orchard last week, you were most likely at the Mod Club on Monday night to catch Ra Ra Riot, seeing as the band gave away tickets to their Canadian release show with the purchase of their sophomore album from GalleryAC or select independent record stores in Toronto.

The Syracuse natives performed at the College street venue to an eager and fresh-faced crowd. Armed with an array of lenses, a sea of photographers lined the front of the stage to capture the indie baroque pop sextet.

Guttermouth at Sneaky Dee'sApparently weekdays are when punks come out to play. At least they do when Guttermouth come to town.

As I sauntered up the blood and vomit soaked steps of Sneaky Dee's Tuesday night, I could hear the muffled sounds of metal on metal as The Swabs started their set. Virtuosic rhythms pumped out of buzzing amps while incomprehensible screams penetrated the eardrums of the by-standers.
