New exhibit tracks the rich history of cinema in Toronto
Following the critical and commercial success of throwback films such as Hugo and The Artist, it seems to be a pretty appropriate time to delve into Toronto's own cinematic history. In an exhibit associated with the Images Festival, Toronto: Cinema City focuses on the GTA's fascinating relationship with film. From Yonge Street grindhouses to the Junction's grand movie palaces, Curator and Eric Veillette has put together an exhibition that chronicles the major events and major losses of Toronto's cinematic past. Tomboyfriend close Williamson's residency at the AGO
After almost two months as the Art Gallery of Ontario's artist-in-residence, Margaux Williamson's tenure drew to close on Saturday with a video premiere and live performance from local art-rock collective Tomboyfriend.Following Paul Butler as only the second artist to be granted free reign of the gallery, Margaux's past events have included a marathon viewing party for a reality-TV art competition, a panel discussion on sex entitled "I'M A VERY SEXY BABY," and free weekly sessions offered to the public on "how to act in real life." Clearly, she's relished in her opportunity to stretch the boundaries of traditional AGO programming. Margaux has also frequently included old friends and previous collaborators in her gallery events, and Tomboyfriend's lead singer Ryan Kamstra can be counted among both.

Ryerson Image Arts grads strut their stuff at META 2012
Ryerson's School of Image Arts is hosting its annual graduating class showcase, this year held at Airship 37 in the Distillery District. Today is the last day to check out the student installations designed to make you think or play while tightly-wound suits pass around melon skewers, jerk chicken and cocktails. This year's theme is how technology affects the modern era (and in many cases, Karl Marx.) Arts

Contra dancing in Toronto is not just for squares
Contra dancing has its roots in the structured and mannered English and French court dances of way-back-when, and that's all I knew when I shuffled into St. Barnabas Church Hall on the Danforth. While contra dancing has fallen in and out of vogue throughout the U.S over the last century, it remains a staple in most university towns. In Toronto, however, there's only one group putting on regular contra dances: The Toronto Country Dancers. Arts
