Carte Blanche, Volume 2 at MOCCA
The AGO has been getting all the headlines this past week, but that's not to say it has been the only art show in town. Last night the MOCCA was a buzz at the launch of Carte Blanche, Volume 2: Painting - an exhibit organized to compliment the unveiling of the Magenta Foundation's publication of the same name.
For those not familiar, this art book is the highly anticipated follow up to the first volume that showcased some of Canada's most accomplished and up and coming photographers. Now, two years later we get to explore the painting side of things with artists ranging from Tony Scherman to Iain Baxter&.

While the book includes almost 200 artists, a select few were chosen for the current exhibit at MOCCA. Among my favourite works on display are Wil Murray's Broadcast TV's Gape Shot Or A Sady End To A Proud Life, Thrush Holmes' Every Old Verse (pictured above left) and Graham Gillmore's Go Fuck Myself (below top right).
The show lasts until December 28th so there's plenty of time to check it out. Also on the walls (in the back/side room at the MOCCA) is a related, traveling exhibition Art Metropole: The Top 100.

Thanks for the recommendation, Tim!
You're right -the AGO's getting all the headlines, but there's definitely some interesting stuff going on outside of the Dundas/McCaul area. This seems like the perfect excuse to get introduced to MOCCA, too.
And... hot damn, I love Thrush Holmes.
Great show and a good way to introduce people to local and emerging artists.
And to Catherine, are you refering to the man or his work? This comment is a little confusing that's all..
This is a dang good painting show. One or two questionable choices but Will Murray, Harold Klunder and Elizabeth mcIntosh are worth the price of admission (free, by donation). If you love contemporary painting then you owe it to yourself to get down and see it.
