Choose Your Own Adventure, er... Billboard

Posted by Kari / April 18, 2007

astralmedia2007%231.jpgAre you tired of looking at billboard advertisements and scratching your head? Or maybe you're just fed up with the blanket of beavers, purple inspirational messages, and flamboyant silhouettes you see every time you turn a corner.

Well, now you have a chance to choose what you'd like to see on some of the billboards owned by Astral Media. The Astral Media Outdoor "My Toronto" Design Competition is in its second year, and over the past couple of months a select panel of judges have been whittling away the competition. OCAD students entered their Toronto-promoting designs in March, and the four finalists have been chosen. Now, the ball is passed onto you!

Decide which ad you'd like to see posted on 20 outdoor billboards (you're also picking the winner of nice monetary prize, plus a $2000 donation to whichever charity the winning team supports). This is a great way to motivate future designers, and also gives them a much needed foot in the door to the advertising industry. My vote goes to design above!

I voted for the one above as well. The rest don't speak to me in the same way.

Yeah, every time I see one of the "My Toronto is _______" billboards for this, I want to climb up and scrawl "covered in billboards" on the line.

They're all pretty mediocre. If I had to pick I'd vote for the one above, but I don't have to, so I didn't.

i agree with norm. these make me ashamed of being an ocad student. i wish the voting site had a comment section... or a choice to just vote for none of them.

Personally I voted for the one with the children's toy "where everybody fits". Although this ad is nicely art-directed - the idea doesn't fit for Toronto - maybe Vancouver. The concept just isn't smart enough, and isn't advertising about concept? this isn't a graphic design competition after all.
