23may05_magno.jpgPlaying for one more week at The Theatre Centre is The Romance of Magno Rubio. Presented by the Carlos Bulsosan Theatre, it tells the story of a naive innocent Filipino migrant worker in 1930s California.

Magno, falls in love with Clarabelle, a tall, blonde from a lonely hearts magazine. He obsessively writes to her, sends her money and eventually asks her to marry him. His fellow migrant workers don't have the heart to snap him to their reality and lets him dream his dream of attaining his love.

While it is at times slightly difficult to follow along the slam poetry style dialogue, director Romeo Candido, still manages to update and bring out the idealism Magno has of attaining the American dream.

The Romance of Magno Rubio @ the Theatre Centre - 1087 Queen St W at Dovercourt.
Plays till May 29th. Tues - Sat 8PM, Sun 2:30PM
$12-$18, PWYC Sunday and Wednesday
