Not to be missed, The Boys Club Show is opening tonight April 1, 2005 at Xspace. It features the work of 12 female illustrators. The idea behind this project is to work on something beyond the confines of commercial work.

The theme is "boys club" and each illustrator has a different perspective on what it means to them.

Carey Sookocheff (this is her illustration shown) has this to say about the theme "As a young girl I was often mistaken for a boy. I had short hair, was a bit of a tomboy and often wore my brother's hand-me-down clothes. This androgyny has followed me into my adult life, as my name is often mistaken for a man's. I am taking this opportunity with the Boys' Club, to explore this aspect of my life and the impact it has had on me both as a child and as an adult."

Be there for the opening night tonight or stop by on Monday April 4th for the panel discussion featuring artists from the Boys' Club, $10 at the door.

Will female artists ever achieve the respect they deserve if they continue to define themselves by what they aren't?
