Sam Javanrouh

About the Artist

Sam Javanrouh is the man behind one of the most popular photoblogs in the world. Born in Tehran, he moved to Toronto in 1999 and four years later started posting a new photo every day to his site Daily Dose of Imagery. Since then, it has almost taken on a life of its own. He has won numerous awards including Photoblog of the Year at the Photobloggies and Best Photoblog in Toronto by readers of this site.

He has also self published two books - DDOI Volume 1 and Volume 2, exhibited at CONTACT and galleries around the city, and occasionally posts some time-lapse videos that get tens of thousands of views.

His photos have been featured in almost every publication of Spacing Magazine and he has been hotly pursued for his photos of the new ROM. After spotting his photo of the jumping girl, Daniel Libeskind's office rang and hired him to take photos of the controversial crystal for the firm.

Most remarkably, Sam is entirely self taught and picks up tricks of the trade from fellow photobloggers or by weaving through discussion threads on Flickr.

Hi Sam,

Hi Sam, good to see the face behind awesome photos that come daily into my mailbox. You have inspired me to take a photo a day, well I try anyway.

Cheers. And all the very best.

Hi Sam,

I am a displaced Torontonian living in London ON. I start my day with the daily dose and I feel connected to my home town. Thank you for the inspiration!

Hey Sam,
I am a displaced Brights Grovian working in London ON. DDOI has been my default page for quite a long time now. Others often stop to have a gander at your shots. I am most impressed with how you ALWAYS have a new shot each day. Not much sleep for you it seems.
Keep inspiring us to shoot.

Hi Sam, same as Marcelo above, I always start my day with a photo from DDI. It's been my routine for about 3 years now. Keep up the great work! You are making my days better :)

Great!

One tiny correction.. Sam is "Self-taught", not "self-tought"

:)

Funny, I started watching your blog to feel more connected to Toronto, which is probably my most favorite city in the world, only to find out (after about a year!) you're from Tehran, like my darling wife...

Small world we live in,

Richard from Holland

I am not in Toronto, have never been to Toronto, got nothing to do with Toronto, and I still can't imagine a day without looking at DDOI once a day for the new upload and a few other times a day to just browse through archives! :)

You're a genius and a half, not just for capturing moments and being blessed with a creative eye but for the fact that you connect people from across the universe!

It'll be an honor to have you come to Karachi, Pakistan - my town - and see it through your viewfinder!

Keep clicking Sam, I am glad I found you.

Best of luck and most warm regards.

Sam is not the author of this post, so saying hi or hey to him is like talking back to the television.

Jerrold on December 5, 2008 at 9:21 AM

Sam is likely reading this, Joe.
