Rannie Turingan

Most people in the city know Rannie Turingan from his blog photojunkie, but few realize that he has jumped the corporate boat and is now a full time freelance photographer. After working eight and a half years in an office environment, Turingan decided to pursue a career in photography in August 2007. Despite the recent shift, the self taught photographer has been in the medium since his childhood. He was in high school when he bought his first Canon EOS 35 mm SLR which trained his eye on photography.

Constantly inspired by the city and its diversity, Turingan always keeps his eyes open, looking for the next shot, the next location or the next detail to capture. In the past, he has done a lot of shooting within the local music scene, but his specialty is environmental portraiture, where his process is centered around engaging his subject, to withdraw them and capture their personality. In his work, he tries to achieve the optimal balance between subject and location.

His photography has appeared in several publications over the years in print and web, including the Hot Docs 2006 and 2007 promotional campaign, Spacing Magazine and Broken Pencil.

Turingan is also an established fine art photographer and has exhibited his work in various group and solo exhibitions in and out of the Toronto area. In 2006, he held his first solo exhibition at Le Petit Dejeuner as a part of the Contact Toronto Photography Festival. In the future, he hopes to do more creative work and series which he hopes to show both nationally and internationally.

I don't get it - just like idontgetit! Rannie a photographer? A fine art photographer? Established? Let's see a REAL CV -- something other than a list of coffee shops and book stores where he's shown his 'work'... Please -- enough of the charade.

I don't get it either :) This seems a bit (a lot) pretentious. I wouldn't be surprised if this was a self-written article...

I didn't know Rannie still took pictures? I thought he was too busy playing Wii and trying to win cars?
