Nicholas di Genova

Nicholas Di Genova is possibly the Darwin of illustrators. Inspired by zoology and animal care, he creates mystical creatures both real and imagined. Di Genova, originally from Belleville, studied sculpture at OCAD and quickly found success. He has exhibited his work internationally in both group and solo shows including some in Europe and Asia.

His initial inspirations came from his adolescent obsessions with graffiti and everything Japanese. This is born out in his earlier work that feartures fantastical Godzilla-type monsters and creatures. But more recently, he has been more influenced from scientific drawings and imagery and artifacts associated with the Victorian era.

Just back from spending two months in New York, Di Genova is currently working on a piece that will feature 20,000 butterflies. He is also maintaining an online comic book, Road of Knives, which he collaborates on with Zack Smith and Shawn Chang.

Di Genova is also the author of 2 illustration books:  Time to Chew (2003) and Die Young (2008).

In Toronto you can find Di Genova's work at Le Gallery. Internationally, he is represented by Fredericks Freiser Gallery in New York and Dukan Hourdequin in Marsaille, France.

Man, I look like such a jerk in this photo, my girlfriend won't stop making fun of me... I was really sick and high on Neo-Citron, and had broken my glasses... She says I look arrogant, but i was just dazed:)

You look very serious at a desk vs. sitting in Magic Pony's window - it's a fine pic, and surely worthy of gf teasing.
