Dan Bergeron, who also goes by the tag fauxreel, is perhaps best known for his billboard takeovers where he manipulates existing ads and turns them into a joke, a political statement or simply a work of art.
His guerrilla tactics have helped change the face of street art, making it both accessible and engaging, if not a pain in the neck for companies like Astral Media.
But beyond this temporary, buzzed-about art form, Bergeron is a photographer by trade who focuses most of his efforts on editorial, commercial and art photography. His client list includes major brands like Adidas and Nike and he's been published in several magazines and completed CD cover art for a range of artists.
His most recent installation - A City Renewal Project - is a collaboration with ex-pat Gabriel Reese, also known as Specter. The installation was built in a commercial unit near the old Mercer Union which will soon be demolished to make room for one of the dreaded West Queen West condo projects.

Just goes to show how art doesn't necessarily(or should always be) an indoor show.
Outdoor art(if done well and tastefully) serves a greater good to communities and society i find. And if good old fashioned "fun" is thrown around in there for good measure.. all the better!
Congrats Dan.
Anyone who missed the installation and wants to know more can pick up a copy of Dan's signed limited edition book on this work at "Show and Tell Gallery" on Dundas near Ossington.
