About the Artist

It's always interesting to cross paths with an artist when they're in a mad rush to put together some work for an upcoming show. Such was the case when we last encountered Brendan Flanagan in his studio on Sterling Road.

Represented by LE Gallery on Dundas West, Brendan has now just launched his second solo show there and the gallery is a better place for it. The stark white walls let his vibrant creations shine - the output of a process of applying acrylic and enamel on wood panel.

While the OCAD grad might be starting to create waves in Toronto, he's already been upping his visibility in Berlin where he just spent a year abroad and is represented by Kollektiv-Berlin. Among his influences are Casper David Friedrich, Daniel Richter, Willem de Kooning,  Peter Doig and Philip Guston.

Interesting work. He's really taking the conceptual qualities of Richter and Doig into an even more contemporary style.
