This week in theatre rounds up the most noteworthy live theatre playing right now in Toronto. It includes just-opened shows as well as productions that are about to close.

Was Spring / Tarragon Theatre / 8:00pm/2:30pm / $23-$39
Daniel MacIvor's newest Toronto premiere, Was Spring, opens at the Tarragon Theatre this week. Like all of MacIvor's deeply thoughtful work, the play features characters in transition. Kit, Kath, and Kitty (all of varying ages) tell differing versions of the same important tale. Like any story, how it's told and how the way in which it's protected matter to the person doing the telling. MacIvor directs Clare Coulter, Caroline Gillis, and Jessica Moss in a play about pain, guilt, and finding love among ruins.

Clybourne Park / Berkeley Street Theatre / 8:00pm/2:00pm / $22-$49
Studio 180 Theatre brings us the Canadian Premiere of the 2011 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Clybourne Park, a comedic riff on Lorraine Hansberry's 1959 play A Raisin in the Sun. A satire set in suburban Chicago, the play has garnered accolades for its look at race relations through real estate over the span of fifty years. The half century which separates the two acts provides a neat frame of the subjects in Bruce Norris's play.

SIA / Factory Studio Theatre / 8:00pm/2:30pm / $12-$30
SIA is yet another script making its way from the independent circuit to a larger stage. Presented by Cahoots Theatre, it was the winner of the Outstanding New Play award from NOW Magazine at the 2010 Toronto Fringe. Playwright Matthew Mackenzie explores how personal choices can have global consequences when Canadian volunteer Nick is taken hostage by a former child soldier from Liberia in a desperate bid to stop a war crimes trial at the International Criminal Court.

Ajax & Little Iliad / World Stage - Enwave Theatre / 8:00pm/2:00pm/4:00pm / $15-$35
Billed as "contemporary performance at its most topical, personal, immediate and intimate," Ajax & Little Iliad sets out to explain, understand, deconstruct, and interrogate the concept of "theatre of war." Featuring room for an audience of 30, with each member given their own headphones, Evan Webber and Frank Cox-O'Connell will challenge theatre's communitarian origins and its radical potential.

The Carnegie Hall Show / The Second City / April 6 at 11:00pm / $6-$12
The monthly series from Canadian Comedy winners The National Theatre of the World is back with some Good Friday cheer. The comic foursome travel back in time to nostalgically present "The Greatest Improvised Scenes Ever Performed!" Special guests for the April 6 show include Juno Award-winning composer and singer-songwriter Bob Wiseman, Christopher Taylor and Zoey Gould from LOOK UP THEATRE, and Nug Nahrgang from Illusionoid.
