This Week In Theatre: May 6, 2008

So, theatre festivals continue on their merry way. A couple more have been added this week, and the two festivals from last week are still going on. More details after the jump.

As always, if there is not a description with the show it has be described in a previous entry.

The AMY Project , May 9 - 11, Theatre Passe Muraille Backspace (16 Ryerson Ave) Only a ( facebook link is available)
AMY is Artists Mentoring Youth, an artist-driven company that works to arm youth with tools of healthy, creative self-expression. Force over Area, their third annual production, explores the state of a group of young women struggling to stand strong under the weight of a world of pressure.

Inspirato Festival, May 1- 10, Alchemy Studio Theatre (133 Tecumseth Street)

Rock.Paper.Sistahz7, May 1 - 31, Various locations.
The month-long showcase of established and emerging artists from across the country will play host to art forms from spoken word to theatre, visual arts to dancehall. Play readings will take place on May 12 and 19 and are a great opportunity to see new plays in the making, and share discussion and finger foods with the artists. Readings taking place at 720 Cafe (720 Bathurst St, just south of Bloor).

MILF - Burlesque for the Domestic Goddess - May 10 at Cadillac Lounge (1296 Queen St W.)
I've always enjoyed the Skin Tight Outta Sight burlesque shows. It's always a night of great fun and energy. I can't imagine that this will be any different.

Canstage
- Misery, Baluma Appel Theatre (27 Front Street East), May 5 - 31.
- The December Man (L'homme décembre), Berkely Street Theatre (26 Berkeley Street) April 7 - May 17. This show was featured on blogTO this week.

Diesel Playhouse (56 Blue Jays Way)
- Evil Dead - The Musical, February 14 - June 14.

Factory Theatre (125 Bathurst St)
- CrossCurrents Festival, May 2 - 11
This is a great series to check out. It's always facinating to see work when it's at this stage of development. The festival often acts as a feeder to future Toronto theatre, this is your opportunity to see it as it develops. I highly reccomend it. All shows are PWYC, so it's also very affordable.
- Sexual Practices of the Japanese , May 7 - May 18
This will be featured in this week's Thursday Theatre Review.

Lorraine Kimsa Theatre for Young People - Mainstage (165 Front Street E)
Dead Ahead, April 28 - May 16

Tarragon Theatre (30 Bridgman Avenue)
Alias Godot, April 30 - June 1
This was featured in last week's Thursday Theatre Review

Theatre Passe Muraille - Main Stage (16 Ryerson Avenue)
People Power, Carlos Bulosan Theatre, April 11 - May 11

The Second City (51 Mercer St)
Tazed and Confused, February 8 - June 29
This was reviewed in a Thursday Theatre Review.

Shakespeare In Action in association with Workman Arts
Mask and Madness in Macbeth , April 24 - May 10 (Joseph Workman Theatre, 1001 Queen St. W)

Théâtre français de Toronto
Et si on chantait / Shall we sing, April 23 - May 10 (Berkeley Street Theatre Upstairs - 26 Berkeley Street)

If you know of something else going on this week that you think people should know about please include it in the comments.
