Theatre Picks: Dec 14-20

Here are this week's Theatre Picks that include a pair of 100 year old comedians, the best playwright of the last 15 years and a Christmas Carol gone awry.

Lump of Coal: Second City alumni, Paul Bates and Doug Morency, play Cecil Williamson, Jr., aged 141 years old and his father, Rufus. Together they are the oldest living father-and-son Cajun music duo, and they've invented every genre of music known to man. Presented by the Williamson Playboys . Thursday Dec 14 at 8:00 at the The Diesel Playhouse.

The Shape of Things by Neil Labute as presented by Nevermeter Productions. My favorite contemporary playwright tells the story of two students , Adam and Evelyn. Adam introduces Evelyn to his friends Jenny and Philiip and the relationships begin to disintigrate as the play veers into the dangerous seductive territory Labute so masterfully sets up.

An examination of contemporary society's obsessions with surface realities. The play challenges the audience to examine the grey areas that traditionally divide such dichotomies as subjectivity and objectivity, truth and falsehood, art and life.

Starring Tara Yelland, Robin Archer, Julian DeZotti and Elizabeth Helmers and playing at Theatre Passe Muraille Dec 14-17.

Mrs. Bob Cratchit's Wild Christmas Binge by Christopher Durang. Entertainment By Demand is excited to stage the musical, just in time for Christmas break! Playing at The Diesel Playhouse Theatre. Opening Friday December 15th - 22nd with a matinee on Dec 17th.

Fifty cents of every ticket will be donated to Gilda's Club of Greater Toronto. Starring Artistic Director, Katherine Bethell (also directs the show), Brandy Huff, Kiona Sinclair, Andre Arruda, Josh Weale, Cory Bertrand, Jess Moss, Ray Smith, Bob Willette, Paul Kingston, Freya Ravensbergen, Erik Andersen, and Dayna Harold
