BOOKS & LIT | This Is Not A Reading Series: Words To Live By by William Whitehead
William Whitehead may be a familiar name in your parents' household given his lengthy career at the CBC, where he worked as a producer and scriptwriter on series such as The Nature of Things, but his memoir will interest an entirely new generation because of its exploration of his relationship with author Timothy Findley. Whitehead launches the memoir Words To Live By at the Gladstone Hotel tonight, engaging in conversation with Marc Cote, the publisher of Cormorant Books and Thomas Allen. Entrance is $5 or free with the purchase of the book.

HISTORY | Streets of Riverdale
Gerald Whyte, president of the Riverdale Historical Society, gives a talk about his new book Streets of Riverdale, which delves into the history of the neighbourhood by giving factual accounts related to every street within the community. The talk will not only celebrate the launch of Whyte's book, but also the 12th anniversary of the Society, which meets monthly to discuss the heritage of Riverdale. Come out to this event to learn something new about one of Toronto's favourite neighbourhoods, and enjoy some of the free refreshments.

ART | Ryerson Student Lecture Series presents Helena Reckitt
London-based critic and curator Helena Reckitt may be in town to see her work actualized on Saturday night when Zone C of Nuit Blanche--which she has curated--opens, but she makes a stop at Ryerson's Image Arts Building tonight to speak to students about her career in the curatorial arts. Open and free to the public, Reckitt will discuss her work as the Senior Curator of Programmes at Toronto's Power Plant from 2006 to 2010, as well as her work in curating international exhibits, and editing and writing for arts publications. This is the first lecture in the Kodak Lecture Series, an annual series that connects arts students with creative professionals.
