FILM | All Balls Don't Bounce Presents: Knuckleball!
All Balls Don't Bounce is a collective devoted to the culture and media surrounding sports. Tonight at the Bloor Hot Docs Cinema, they present the film Knuckleball. This is a documentary about the art of a very specialized pitching technique in baseball. Essentially, when executed properly, a knuckleball does not spin in flight, and this causes its trajectory to be very unpredictable, and therefore nearly impossible to hit. The technique is apparently so precise and difficult to achieve, that it's believed that fewer than 80 players have ever possessed this ability in the entire history of baseball. This film tells the story of the last pro knuckleball pitchers: Tim Wakefield (Red Sox) and R.A. Dickey (Mets).

BOOKS & LIT | Susan Swan launches The Western Light
Canadian author Susan Swan's latest novel, The Western Light will be launched this evening at The Annex Live. Swan's career spans many decades, and she has received great critical acclaim and many awards. Her novel The Wives Of Bath was made into the successful film Lost and Delirious, and her novel The Biggest Modern Woman Of The World has been adapted for the stage. Tonight, she will be discussing a variety of subjects with sports columnist and author Bob Duff. This event is presented by This Is Not a Reading Series and Cormorant Books.

ART | Luminous Flux II
This intriguing one-night art event will feature the work of younger, up-and-coming artists, and as the event's name implies, 'light' is a thematic consideration here. While the inaugural "Luminous Flux" focused on the more glammed-out light possibilities--such as fluorescence, pyrotechnics, and the like--tonight's exhibition will center around "biology" and the many areas where life and light intersect. There will also be a musical performance by Falcon Jane and Paper Bag Palace.

MUSIC | Wolfshirt Records Family Hour w/ The Dead Highs, Raised By Weeds, We Were Heads, and The Beverlys
A stacked bill at Parts & Labour tonight courtesy of Wolfshirt records. Female trio The Beverlys bring their surf-tinged punk sounds, along with We Were Heads, an experimental, sonically adventurous project with lots of edge and Sonic Youth-style energy. Windsor-based garage rockers Raised By Weeds and locals The Dead Highs are also on this bill. Come out and support some loud, raucous, high-energy independent music tonight!
