Radar: International Festival of Authors at the Ex, Ghett'a Life, screening of Regretters, The Comedy Cabaret, Bingo and Drinking

BOOKS & LIT | International Festival of Authors at the EX
The International Festival Of Authors, which happens this October here in TO, will be giving us a special "sneak peek" this evening at the CNE's Direct Energy Centre with a special mini-symposium on mystery writing with three acclaimed authors. Ian Hamilton, the author of The Red Pole of Macau will be joined by John Lawrence Reynolds, a two-time Arthur Ellis Award recipient whose latest work of crime fiction is Beach Strip, with Brad Smith, Canadian author of Crow's Landing and former nominee for the Dashiell Hammett Prize, rounding out the trio. The host for this evening's event will be Toronto writer and editor, Steven W. Beattie who will also moderate this very promising panel discussion.
Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place (100 Princes Blvd) 5:30PM (free with CNE admission - $5 after 5PM)

FILM | Ghett'a Life
Director Chris Browne's riveting political drama, Ghett'a Life begins its one-week run tonight at the Albion Cinemas. This film was shot entirely on location in Jamaica, and won the Hartley-Miller International Screenwriting Competition at the 2006 Cannes International Film Festival. Set against the backdrop of Jamaican political turmoil, Ghett'a Life follows a teenager's struggle to make his dream of becoming a national boxing champion a reality. The film runs until September 2nd.
Albion Cinemas (1530 Albion Road) 7:30PM $5

FILM | Trans Film Screening Series: "Regretters" and short films
The Trans Film Screening Series presents director Marcus Lindeen's 2012 film, Regretters this evening. This subtitled Swedish film is a gripping story of two men who became women, and subsequently returned to male gender. This film is conveyed in a minimalist fashion, with raw set design, slides, and dialogue. There is certainly plenty of food for thought here for any viewer. A few short films will also be screened this evening, and there will be a discussion afterwards.
New College Hall (45 Willcocks Street) 6:30PM FREE

COMEDY | The Comedy Cabaret
The final Comedy Cabaret of the Summer goes down tonight! You've got to ask yourself how these guys knew to pick Monday for these Comedy Cabaret nights - it's the night you need to laugh the most. Thankfully, if you show up at the Charlotte Room tonight you will be in good hands: Todd Van Allen, Diana Love, Darren Pyle, Robin Crossman, JP Hodgekinson, Rene Robichaud, Anto Chan, and Michael Flamanck have gotten delivering the "best medicine" down to a science. This evening's hilarity will be hosted by Chris MacLean.
Charlotte Room (19 Charlotte Street) 9PM PWYC
