HISTORY | Party People: Celebrating CBC Radio's Funk Getting Ready to Roll
It's no secret that blogTO loves its history posts so we can't not talk about CBC Radio's new audio documentary Funk Getting Ready to Roll. An audible history about Toronto in the seventies during its forgotten funk phase, this doc hosted by David Dacks tells the story of George Clinton and his band during their early success in Hogtown. Come out to the party tonight to celebrate the doc and feed your soul with a dance or two. If you can't make it, fear not; it airs on CBC Radio this Sunday.

THEATRE | AJAX (por nobody)
Alice Tuan's AJAX (por nobody) visualizes a contemporary hedonistic Greek tragedy where four people on a sex spree find themselves in a situation beyond their control. Premiering on stage at the SummerWorks Festival, director Zack Russell maneuvers his actors through this dark comedic portrayal of emptiness and gratification as their evening becomes chaotic and disturbing. AJAX runs until August 19th. Tickets are available through the Ticket Wise website.

ART | Place Unheard
Find a place, leave that place, try this place--semantic satiation aside, the tiresome attachments to a "place" are examined in Place Unheard, a new exhibit opening at Gallery 1313 tonight. With works from nine artists who live off the beaten path, Place Unheard examines the values, definitions and perspectives of the places we go from a transient viewpoint, while exemplifying how our idea of "place" is rooted in outdated ideology. The exhibit is presented by Toronto arts collective Catscan and will be on display until the 19th.

MUSIC | Action Bronson
In his short, two-year rap career, Albanian-American hip hop artist Action Bronson has been steadily pumping out albums and mixtapes (eight, to be exact) and his obsession is paying off as he is gaining notoriety. Performing at The Hoxton tonight, Toronto hip hop act Philly Moves and DJ Patrick McGuire will open for the New Yorker before the former chef drops some culinary rap knowledge on the audience (seriously). Should be an interesting one so grab tickets on Ticketweb before the show.

ART | Shots of Heroine
Our pals at #Hashtag Gallery are all about the ladies tonight with the opening of Deena Pagliarello's first solo illustration show. Shots of Heroine is an ode to the female protagonist, both superhero and action star, as a symbol of a shift in thinking. Represented in unique, illustrated works, Pagliarello examines the newfound visibility of strong female characters in all media and how consumers are responding to the fairer sex taking on the leading role. The exhibit remains on display until August 23rd.
