Radar: Down the Rabbit Hole, Refocus, Sean Chercover's The Trinity Game, The Growlers

ART | Down the Rabbit Hole
The folks at Steam Whistle are strong supporters of the arts, and host regular exhibitions. This month's event has been given the trippy Lewis Caroll-inspired title Down In The Rabbit Hole. The theme for this exhibition: the fantastic, the "ethereal," and reconciling the "familiar" with the "unfamiliar." Various media will be showcased, including paintings, photographs, and drawings, and the featured artists will be: Claire Scherzinger, Emily Scherzinger, Emily Taylor, Alex Thompson, Michael Rennick, Michelle Rocca, Rachel Duffy, and Kelly Stevenson. Tonight is the official launch and opening party for this showcase, which runs until the end of the month.

FILM | Refocus #9 - Malcolm Murray's BAD POSTURE (Canadian Premiere)
Refocus is a Toronto-based screening series that is devoted to promoting and showcasing exceptional and current independent films. These fine folks are presenting two Refocus nights this month, the first of which goes down tonight, and will feature Malcolm Murray's 2011 crime-romance film Bad Posture. This film was a Rotterdam Film Festival pick, and takes place in Albuquerque with a colourful cast of characters who smoke too much, steal cars, and make advances on girls in sundresses. Bad Posture stars Florian Brozek, Trey Cole, and Tabatha Shaun.
Double Double Land (209 Augusta Avenue) 9PM

BOOKS & LIT | Sean Chercover's "The Trinity Game" - Book Launch
Toronto author Sean Chercover launches his latest crime thriller, The Trinity Game, tonight at The Dora Keogh Pub. The story follows a different kind of sleuth protagonist, Daniel Byrne, on his investigation of a reported "miracle" performed by a dodgy television evangelist. Needless to say, things get out of hand very quickly. Chercover's previous work has won numerous awards, including won the Shamus and CWA Dagger awards, and other literary accolades.
The Dora Keogh (141 Danforth Avenue) 6PM

MUSIC | THE GROWLERS w/ The Bats Pajamas & Yardlets
Californian psych-rockers The Growlers hit The Horsehoe tonight! Their latest album has been produced by The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach, and the group often boasts (who wouldn't?) about being named by Bill Murray as his "favourite band." Their sound, which is a blend of retro psych, surf, and several other genres, is a special blend that they have come to call "beach goth." Montreal's Yardlets fill the middle slot on the bill tonight, and TO's own Bat's Pajamas, who have an interesting set of influences including The Cramps and The Velvet Underground, will open the show.
The Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) Doors at 830PM $12
