Radar: Trampoline Hall, El-P and Killer Mike, Kyle Brenders Quartet at the Emmet Ray, Chic-A-Boom Room Presents High Society

CULTURE | Trampoline Hall
The very popular, off-the-beaten-track lecture series known as Trampoline Hall returns to The Garrison this evening. This well-attended event features speakers who typically discuss subjects that vary from in subject matter, but are always deliberately outside of the speaker's area of expertise. Tonight's edition is curated by Xenia Benivolski, and will feature Matt Soucie on the subject of "steamrooms," Jeremy McCormick on the Dufferin Mall, and Henri Faberge on "naval culture."
The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West) 8PM $5

MUSIC | El-P & Killer Mike at The Hoxton
Hip hop invades The Hoxton tonight, as El-P, Killer Mike, and Mr. MF Exquire take over. El-P has collabed with Blackalicious, Mos Def, and Dilated Peoples, and is known for forging his own sonic direction in the hip hop world. Killer Mike came to widespread recognition through working with OutKast, and Mr. MF Exquire has a solid rap rep. Word has it that other acts may be added to this already stacked bill, as well.
The Hoxton (69 Bathurst Street) 8PM $22.50

MUSIC | Kyle Brenders Quartet at the Emmet Ray
Toronto multi-instrumentalist and composer Kyle Brenders plays The Emmet Ray this evening accompanied by his quartet. Brenders, a woodwind player, is an active member of the TO experimental and jazz community, and his work focuses on "the interaction of intentionality and surprise, [...] and the experience of duration." Brenders' quartet is made up of himself on woodwinds, Steve Ward on trombone, bassist Wes Neal, and Mark Segger on drums.
The Emmet Ray (924 College Street) 9PM

DANCE | Chic-A-Boom Room Presents High Society
Sometimes what you need is a dance experience, and the folks who have put this event together promise that this one will be decadent. The Chic-A-Boom Room & DivGirl Entertainment want to take you on a trip to "High Society," far above the hoi polloi and dazzled by the DivaGirl dancers.
227 Ossington Avenue 9PM $20
