FOOD | Tasty Thursdays
The place to be during your lunch hour today will be Nathan Phillips Square for Tasty Thursdays. Until August 30th, a delectable variety of food vendors will be offering up international dishes for your consumption each week. Variety is the "spice of life," and you will find it here in the form of jerk chicken, gourmet burgers, Thai food, Indian fare, and much, much more. To make the experience even better, live music will be happening every Thursday as well, and Diego Marulanda will supply some Latin-flavoured sounds today.

MUSIC | Freeman Dre & the Kitchen Party album release with Lemon Bucket Orkestra + Nick Teehan
Tonight at The Horseshoe, TO's own Freeman Dre & the Kitchen Party launch their latest album, Old Town. Voted best songwriter in NOW magazine's 2010 reader's poll, Freeman Dre has been a fixture on the live music scene here in town for quite some time. Also on the bill are Lemon Bucket Orkestra, whose video of an 'impromptu' performance on a delayed airliner must have made your FaceBook feed in the last few months. Opening the show is singer/songwriter Nick Teehan.

ART | Charles Bierk + Peter Horvath & Chris Soos + Renie Spoelstra exhibition opening
Tonight's group exhibition at the Nicholas Metivier Gallery brings together three artists whose work draws upon the relationship between the dynamics of cinema and traditional visual art, and the result manifests itself as "still images." Charles Bierk will be displaying works of black and white photography, while Toronto artist Peter Horvath and LA-based artist Chris Soos' long distance collaboration will be using iPhone photography to deliver their concept. Renie Spoelstra will be exhibiting drawings that have strong influences from iconic directors Alfred Hitchcock and David Lynch. The exhibition runs until August 18th.

MUSIC | Loom + Gracious Calamity + Thom Gill + Murder Boats
A truly 'folkmospheric' show goes down at The Tranzac Club in the Annex tonight. Loom is the project moniker for Toronto singer/songwriter Brooke Manning, who utilizes a variety of instruments to accompany her vocals, and the result is "warm & inviting." Boston's Gracious Calamity are a folk duo going for a back porch vibe, while Thom Gill's gentle "avant pop" has a very different, but easily compatible approach. Rounding out the bill is Murder Boats, going for more of a rhythmic soundtrack with a shuffle that's fit for any decent saloon.
