Paris is a city built with stone and iron and artist Joe Calleja captures the contrasting beauty of these materials in Divertissement, his latest exhibit to open at Artscape Triangle Gallery in Liberty Village this evening. Calleja's photographs were taken on a recent trip to the city and gathered in this small collection of images of architecture and statue to distinguish the beauty of Paris' overall aesthetic. Joe Calleja's second exhibit, The Seaside Triptychs, will also be on display at the gallery, launching tonight at 5PM.

BOOKS & LIT | Wolsak & Wynn 2012 Spring Launch: Surani, Owen & Avasilichioaei
Collections of fairy tales, poetry and deeply personal essays are the latest of works launching in the Spring 2012 catalogue of Wolsak & Wynn Publishers Ltd. The Hamilton-based publishing group presents three Canadian authors from across the country and their newest books. Montreal poet Oana Avasilichioaei's "We, Beasts" mixes mythic poetry with social commentary while in "Floating Life," Toronto writer Moez Surani explores relationships and identity as his characters travel the globe. Catherine Owen's "Catalysts," on the other hand, uses personal essays to explore the writer's style and influences. The Magpie Tavern will be hosting the launch party with drinks, readings and author appearances.

ART | National Youth Arts Week--Launch Party
Canada's under-30 crowd is being singled out for their work during the first annual National Youth Arts Week, a festival happening across the city in celebration of young emerging talents. Cinecycle plays host to the launch party tonight with emcee Nicole Stamp introducing art, theatre, dance and musical performances by local youth. Two films from TIFF's new upcoming Next Wave Film Festival will be screened and interactive arts and crafts activities will be available. If you're an artist under 30, come out to meet your kind!

PHOTOGRAPHY | Plan Canada's Because I'm A Girl: The Journey of a Girl
The CONTACT Photography Festival has launched in Toronto and everyone's inner photographer can find an exhibit to their liking. Plan Canada's Because I Am A Girl initiative is joining in on the events with a special, topical exhibit, The Journey of a Girl, a showcase of documentary photographs by life photographer Catherine Farquharson that follow the lives of girls on two continents. Documenting the hope and effort the featured young girls are putting into fulfilling their dreams and educating themselves, Farquharson's exhibit will raise money for the Because I Am A Girl social movement to educate, nourish and protect girls in the developing world.
