Radar: Tennis at The Horseshoe, Sleeping Nights Awake, Authors at Harbourfront, The Crush Project

MUSIC | Tennis at The Horseshoe
This relatively new trio, based around a married couple (Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley) hailing from Denver have made quite the splash since forming in 2010. They have been getting tons of blog love and critical praise from Pitchfork and other sources of indie "cred." Word has spread about their minimalist melodic approach that has a bit of a retro, even surfy vibe at times. Their second album, "Young and Old" was produced by The Black Keys' Patrick Carney, and features the song "Origins", which was used on a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy. Tonight they are joined by Hospitality, from Brooklyn.
The Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 8:30pm $15

FILM | Sonic Youth: Sleeping Nights Awake
Tonight, the Images Festival celebrates the launch of its 25th year! Part of their "looking back" process involves recalling the cultural climate of their inaugural year in the late '80s, and Sonic Youth's "Daydream Nation" was a force to be reckoned with at that time. With this in mind, a screening of "Sleeping Nights Awake," a documentary on Sonic Youth produced by entirely by high school students seems quite appropriate! Shaking Hell, a Sonic Youth tribute band put together just for this occasion, will hit the stage following the film!
The Garrison (1197 Dundas Street West) 8PM $10 (students: pwyc at 6PM)

BOOKS & LIT | Authors at Harbourfront Centre: Charlottte Gill, Robert Hough, Kim ThĂşy
Another great evening of reading and discussion from the Authors at Harbourfront Centre series! Tonight, Charlotte Gill reads from her non-fiction work, "Eating Dirt": a candid look at the tree planting "sub culture," and life in the forest. Robert Hough will share some passages from his fourth novel, "Dr. Brinkley's Tower", and Kim ThĂşy will read from her award-winning novel, "Ru." Becky Toyne will be the host this evening, and a lively discussion surrounding the readings is expected.
Harbourfront Centre (235 Queens Quay West) 7:30PM $10 (students/members FREE)

MUSIC | The Crush Project presents I Got You Babe
The Crush Project presents an awesome night of duet performances of your favourite tunes! There will definitely be some cheesy "guilty pleasure" tunes going down, just for fun, but also some great songs everyone will likely get into. The lineup includes: Casey Mecija of Ohbijou, Lucas Silveira of The Cliks, Tracy Hibou, Emma McKenna, Vivek Shraya, and many more. Host for tonight's event will be Miss Fluffy Souffle & Kaleb Robertson.
Gladstone Hotel (1214 Queen Street West) 8PM $5
