ART | Face the World Global Paint Party
In conjunction with the closing of Carole Freeman's Friend Me: Portraits of Facebook exhibit on now at Edward Day, the gallery will host a social art event and auction this evening. Eventgoers will be invited to paint the profile picture of a Facebook friend to create a global art project at this party that doubles as a fundraiser. Organized by Friend Me Projects, a global initiative to bring humanity together in friendship and common connections, the event serves to raise money for The Stephen Lewis Foundation Arts Fund. Bring along an 8.5x11 copy of the photo you wish to paint or just show up to watch and enjoy!

THEATRE | Loving the Stranger or How To Recognize An Invert
Right on the heels of the opening of the Next Stage Theatre Festival, the life story of Peter Flinsch is introduced to Toronto's stages in Loving the Stranger or How To Recognize An Invert. Opening tonight at the Factory Theatre, Alistair Newton's tale of the artist's escape from homophobic Nazi Germany and his rise to recognition as a theatre designer with the CBC combines political content with cabaret and satire to create this highly-praised musical. Developed by the 2010 SummerWorks Festival and Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, the show runs until January 15th with tickets available through Fringe Toronto's website or at the Factory Theatre box office.

THEATRE | The Last Five Years
A musical set to a live 5-piece string ensemble and piano, The Last Five Years follows a writer and aspiring actress through song as they fall in and out of love over the course of five years. By using two storylines--his chronological and hers in backwards-chronological order with the two meeting in the middle at their wedding--this play is smart yet remains intimate. Directed by Kate Stevenson and starring Alison Jutzi and John Boag with music direction by Jason Zinger, Jason Robert Brown's play will be performed until the 14th with tickets available through the Tarragon website or at the box office.

FILM | CinĂŠ-Jeudi: Dans le ventre du moulin (The Image Mill Revealed)
In 2008, Robert Lepage opened an installation that contained large-scale impressionistic performance images to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Quebec City. Working alongside members of his artistic production company Ex Machina, the final three months before the opening was documented by filmmakers Mariano Franco and Marie Belzil in Dans le ventre du Moulin (The Image Mill Revealed). This National Film Board doc will be screened for free tonight at the Mediatheque, presenting the intense artistic efforts that went into making the bright and sharp piece known as The Image Mill.

MUSIC | Rust Belt Lights, Thirtyseven and Bathurst
The Shop under Parts & Labour presents three pop punk bands tonight from across North America. The line-up includes the Buffalo five-piece Rust Belt Lights followed by the up-tempo sound of Texas band Thirtyseven. Toronto locals Bathurst round out the show with their fast-paced pop punk that follows through with their rule of "No slow songs. Ever." Tickets to the show can be purchased at Soundscapes and Rotate This.
