ART | Civil Servant Tactics - Eugene Paunil
Why do humans create, discover, achieve? Eugene Paunil believes we are all entertained by what we create and this sense of entertainment is what drives us to evolve. Exploring this idea in his first solo show, which opens tonight at Goodfellas Gallery, Toronto's own Paunil depicts the regular work routines of everyday people through painting, with each containing a miniature sculpture within the image. FILM | Inside Out Presents: Pariah
In Dee Rees' directorial feature debut Pariah, 17-year-old Alike is learning to embrace her identity as a lesbian as she grows up in Brooklyn. Unsure of how her family will react to the news during her eager search for a girlfriend, Alike relies on her best friend Laura as she quietly shapes herself into a different kind of woman than her family will admit her to be. Screening tonight at the TIFF Bell Lightbox as a part of Inside Out, the LGBT Film and Video Festival, Pariah is an award-winning film masterpiece about growing up gay.

MUSIC | Quique Escamilla Band - CBC Radio Live Recording and EP Release
Multi-instrumental Mexican-Canadian recording artist Quique Escamilla plays a special set with a full band tonight at Lula Lounge for the CBC Radio Live recording of his debut EP. Influenced by Latin American beats, the album will be played and recorded in full this evening during Escamilla's one-hour set. Join the young musician and his opening act Laura Fernandez Band at 8PM and stick around for the album release party afterward.

THEATRE | Red Snow
In Diana Tso's Red Snow, recurring nightmares of a Chinese opera lead a young woman on a search for three generations of family history and her personal ties to The Rape of Nanking. When she falls in love with a man on a similar journey, they discover that the holocaust has divided their families as enemies. Tonight, Tso's story premieres at Theatre Passe Muraille under the direction of Beatriz Pizano and starring ZoĂŠ Doyle, Vienna Hehir and Derek Kwan. The show runs until January 28th.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Suspension - Portraits of Actors
The suspension of disbelief is cracked when the make-up and costuming disappears--but what about while it is being applied? In this first solo show by photographer Joshua MacDonald, Suspension comprises of images of actors in the process of becoming a character in order to examine the art of portraiture as well as identity in photograph. The opening reception takes place tonight at I.M.A. Gallery with the show continuing until February 4th.
