CITY | Unbuilt Toronto Talk
Author Mark Osbaldeston recently released his second book about ill-fated projects that might have drastically changed the shape of the city over the years. From heartbreakingly unfinished transit projects to the alternate plans for the Toronto Reference Library to Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment's proposal to build a hockey arena above Union Station, there's much to discover in this alternate history of TO. The author will be on hand tonight at the ROM to talk about the city that might have been, which should prove to be a stimulating affair. Make sure to bring some tissues. Some of the proposed projects that never came to be would have made this city a much more beautiful place.
ROM 7:00PM, Public $12.00, Member $10.00, FICC Members $8.00

MUSIC | Peter Murphy and She Wants Revenge
Peter Murphy is in town! The much-revered former frontman for '80s supergroup, Bauhaus has quite a long-standing cult following, and this show will undoubtedly be packed! Murphy has a new album to share, "Ninth", so expect some material from there, plus some older favourites. California duo She Wants Revenge is also on the bill, and they are no strangers to hanging out and sharing the stage with '80 giants, having toured several years ago with Depeche Mode. They have also declared their interest in opening for Bauhaus, and there's little surprise there, as the influence (especially Murphy's vocal style) is clearly obvious, especially on tracks like "Tear You Apart". Hustle Club is also on the bill.
Lee's Palace (Bloor Street West) 8PM $35

BOOKS & LIT | Matthew Firth's Shag Carpet Action book launch
Matthew Firth launches his collection of short stories, Shag Carpet Action tonight at the Gladstone Hotel. This promises to be an edgy evening, as Firth's collection of short fiction includes a novella, with a title that is likely illegal to utter in most parts of the world! Firth's previous collections of fiction have been equally racy and boundary-pushing, such as Suburban Pornography and Other Stories from 2006, and he also helms his own Black Bile Press. Author Nathaniel Moore will engage Firth in conversation, and a musical performance by Martin Verral is promised. Shagadelic!
Gladstone Hotel Melody Bar (1214 Queen Street West) 7PM $5 (free with book purchase)

THEATRE | Jackie's Not a Real Girl: A Play for Voices
Nichola Ward's Jackie's Not a Real Girl will enjoy a performance at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre tonight, and promises to be a demanding and possibly disturbing bit of theatre. True tales of lives gone awry always make for good dramatic fodder, here our tragic protagonist is a transgendered individual whose life has taken a wrong turn and has turned to prostitution for survival, and has ended up in prison. The production has been described as "minimal", using projected images and very little staging. There will be an open discussion following the show.
Buddies In Bad Times Theatre (12 Alexander Street) 7:30PM $10

MUSIC | Mack Browne, Pali, and Subhuman
Thymeless on College Street has been home to bass music for quite a while now, giving a regular Wednesday night home to "bottom friendly" music lovers. This week, a new twist on the event goes down, an event "upgrade", if you will - Dubslingers Gold Series makes its debut. Taking the dub treats even further for this Wednesday night hang, the Dubslingers Gold Series will venture deep into the culture of dub, and its offshoots, such as Dubstep, Dub House, and more. Tonight, Mack Browne, Pali, and Subhuman will be taking care of your musical needs above and below 40 Hertz.
Thymeless (355 college street) 10PM
