MUSIC | Nujazz Festival: KING BRITT (Extended Set), Sarah Linhares, Mamabolo
The 4th Annual NuJazz Fest continues, and tonight is one of its biggest shows! King Britt has been making music on a world-class level for decades, first coming to widespread recognition touring with Digable Planets, and this was well after become established in the Philly club scene as a DJ. He will be performing one of his "extended sets" in place of the scheduled performance of his Saturn Never Sleeps project, but this is not bad news - it means a long beautiful electronic trip that's pure Britt, fusing old and new sounds with an old hand that flows one vibe into the next beautifully. Check his SoundCloud page for a taste! Also on the bill tonight are Montreal's Sara Linhares and TO's own Mamabolo. Groove Institute will also be in the house. Warning: it's gonna get funky!

MUSIC | BLACK STAR (MOS DEF & TALIB KWELI)
Black Star returns! This incredible hip hop duo first came to prominence in 1998, and is made up of Mos Def and Talib Kweli, both well known emcee talents. "Black Star" isn't a bit of gratuitous hip hop bravado: it is, in fact, a reference to Marcus Garvey's shipping line. Their first album, "Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star" saw much praise, and some chart action, too. Their recent appearance on the Colbert Report confirms that there's still some good chemistry going on here, and Black Star is back in business! A few new tracks are already leaking, and a new album is slated for next year. Tonight's show at the Kool Haus is sure to be packed, and a good time! DJ Wristpect and Fase will keep things grooving.

CULTURE | WORN Fashion Journal Issue 13 Launch: Black Cat Ball
Worn Fashion Journal is holding a Black Cat Ball tonight to celebrate the launch of their lucky 13th issue! This publication comes out twice a year, and has a unique perspective, and mandate: to present 'timeless' pieces on fashion and the culture from which fashion emanates - articles that don't focus on what is "in" or "out", and content that doesn't 'exclude' based on gender or race. In other words, they consider themselves an "alternative to mainstream fashion magazines". Judging by Worn's popularity, they are doing the job! Tonight's Black Cat Ball should be an interesting affair, with attendees being asked to dress "ball style in black and white".

CLUBS | BANG THE PARTY! w/ ANDYCAPP, ROD SKIMMNS, JEREMY GLENN
Things should go out with a "bang", but this is one party that goes down with one! Bang The Party finds the dynamic duo of Andycapp & Rod Skimmins spinning a soundtrack supreme that will have your booty shaking, and your libido fulfilled, but never complacent. After all, this is Saturday night! This DJ team has promised that there will be plenty of new sounds and new grooves to keep things fresh and alive, and they are going to make it very difficult for you to stop dancing: the will be no bunk in their funk to give you an out to take a break - you will have to keep going all night! Jeremy Glen is going to get everything started on the right track at the top of the evening - just one more reason to arrive early. This party fills up quick, and folks do get turned away when things get to 'capacity', so definitely come out early, ready to go!

Sometimes you have to wonder: where do all the happening, vinyl-loving DJs and hipsters get their rare records? It's at sales like these! Sure, you can make regular stops at your local record shop, and you should continue to do that, but this is a different kind of experience. This sort of sale only happens a few times a year, and this isn't taking place out of somebody's garage! This is a collectors' show, where there will be over 20,000 titles for your perusal. If there's something you've been looking for that has been evading your grasp, this is one of your best chances to make that happen. The Gladstone Hotel is also a nice hang, to be sure. The sale runs until 4pm.

CULTURE | Iceland Arts Festival: Airwaves Concert, Film Screening, Market
Both this afternoon and this evening mark the awesome opening phase of the Iceland Arts Festival! Beginning at 1PM today, the Elmo will be transformed into a bustling marketplace - Kolaport, complete with food, art, books, clothing, and more. One hour into these festivities, a screening of the music doc "Where is the Snow?" will take place. This film will fill you in with all you need to know about the Iceland Airwaves Festival, and director Bowen Staines will be around to do a Q & A following the film. The second half of today's event will take place at 8pm at the Elmo, and it's a special musical performance by some Icelandic bands to promote the Iceland Airwaves Festival. The 'indie-pop' outfit Of Monsters and Men will be joined by instrumental band For a Minor Reflection, with opener SigrĂşn Stella. Definitely worth checking out, even if you don't plan to make the trip to Iceland next year.

CULTURE | DEAD SOULS - Poetry, Music & Art Night
An evening of poetry, art, and music awaits you tonight at The Smiling Buddha Bar! "Dead Souls" is an evening dedicated to our ancestors, and those who have passed on. It's always a wonderful thing when different artforms converge on a venue, and tonight promises to deliver on that potential. An excellent lineup of poets, including Liisa Ladouceur, John Barlow, Liz Worth, Spencer Butt, and Raeanne Quinton will be sharing some of their verses on the mic, and artists Valerie Marchand, Devon E. Sioui, and Cynthia Gould will be displaying theirs for your enjoyment. Music will be provided by Marcus Carab, Four Star Daydream, and The Raspberry Heaven. Come out and be inspired, and support three different sectors of locals artists at one event!

MUSIC | 7th Annual Neil Young Tribute
Neil Young needs no introduction. The man has written many classics that will outlive us all, and is still going strong. His recent collab with Daniel Lanois entitled, "Le Noise" is a testament to the fact that nothing will keep a great artist from continuing to deliver great work. It's no wonder that musicians feel the need to share his music and their interpretations of it. This is actually the seventh annual Neil Young tribute - pretty impressive! Tonight at The Piston, a great lineup of musicians will pay tribute to Young on the day after his 66th birthday: Sarah Burton, Mark Martyre, Myke Mazzei, Alysse Rich & the Family Band, Tiger Lil, and Andrea Ramolo can be counted on to shed new light on some timeless tunes.
