FILM | NO! Screening The Documentary for the Day to End Violence Against Women
Tonight at York University's Chancellor's Lounge, there will be a special screening of "NO! The Rape Documentary." This film took over a decade to come together for producer and director Aishah Shahidah Simmons, who is herself a victim of sexual assault. The film's principles are universal, but a big part of the message here is aimed at African-American communities, where cases of sexual violence become more complicated and turn into a community issue of sorts, and legal action is often stunted or not acted upon to protect the community as a whole. The message is clear from the title of the movie, but it's delivered in a powerful way, augmented by archival film footage, music and poetry.

MUSIC | Find The Others live at Hugh's Room - CD Release!
Guitarist Andy Sheppard's project, Find The Others, will launch its new self-titled CD tonight at Hugh's Room. Sheppard is a Canadian singer/songwriter and a producer for CBC Radio 2. This project finds a myriad of worldly influences melded together into a cohesive sound that has traces of African rhythms, electronics, tender vocals, soundscapes, and much more. Find The Others is currently on a cross-Canada tour, and merges video with their musical performances to deliver an experience that many are calling "quietly mind-blowing." Find out for yourself tonight!
Hugh's Room (2261 Dundas Street West) 8PM

BOOKS & LIT | Toronto Erotica Writers and Readers Meetup
It's time for the next TO erotica Writers and Readers meetup! The venue this month is Tequila Bookworm once again, and there is some fun planned for tonight. Robin Wolfe will talk about Freaky Fountain Press, a book publisher founded by Robin and Catherine Leary that specializes in erotica with "dark themes" - sort of a 'Goth Erotica,' if you will. Unfortunately, it was recently announced that there will only be one more Freaky Fountain title published before the press ceases operation, so it will be interesting to hear Robin's take on this, as well as some other stories. There will be plenty of other guests as well to provide the variety that keeps things fresh. As always, the "ORAL: Adventures in Erotica" portion of the meetup will be in full swing, and this is an always entertaining 'open mic', which will stream live on the web.
Tequila Bookworm (512 Queen Street West) 7PM $5

MUSIC | Distant Cousins' Mustache Social!
Billed as a "Mustache Extravaganza," tonight's shindig at Clinton's courtesy of Distant Cousins, celebrates the end of Movember, and a slice of the cover charge will be donated to that cause. It's a great night of music, choc full of great bands! Army Girls, a local two-piece will get you going with tightly crafted tunes that have some snarl, as well a gentle feminine side for good measure. Old English will make their first appearance under their new moniker, injecting some dreamy electro-pop sounds into the mix. Viva Mars and Illitry are also ready to rock on this bill. A great night of music for a great cause!
Clintons (693 Bloor Street West) 9PM $7
