MUSIC | Chromeo & Mayer Hawthorne
Chromeo hits the Sound Academy tonight to share their special dancy vibes with their TO fans. Their sound, often described as "electrofunk," is firmly rooted in '80s funky-pop sensibilities, hooks, and production. Their latest is last year's "Business Casual", but these guys are road warriors, and it's not unusual for them to be touring a release for years! They bring the party with them wherever they go, and our beloved T-dot is the locale tonight! They are joined by Mayer Hawthorne.

ART | New works by Alexandra Mackenzie
"Expertly drafted" is a good way to describe Alexandra Mackenzie's work. The Toronto-based musician and artist has her first solo show beginning today, and there are some amazing sneak peeks on the gallery website. At first glance, the realist chops are immediately evident, but something else is steering the ship here, with possible influences coming from Surrealism, Occult artists like Austin Spare... perhaps even William Blake. The exhibition runs through the 26th of the month.

MUSIC | 416 Toronto Creative Improvisers Festival
The 416 Toronto Creative Improvisers Festival begins tonight at The Tranzac! This four-day fest was created to offset what was perceived as a larger jazz festival's unevolving, sterile and conservative musical programming. This festival promises a "panoramic overview" of Toronto's improvised music scene. Tonight the ball gets rolling with a triple bill: Mimo, a laptop and percussion duo who explore ambient territory, spontaneous composition with Allison Cameron and Stephen Parkinson, and Ghost Eye.

ART | Adventures of Tintin Art Exhibit
Tonight is the opening party for Toronto Draws Tintin. This is an exhibition jointly put together by Steam Whistle Brewery and The Beguiling Books & Art. This evening, join in the celebration of a collection of work by Toronto artists have who love that Belgian wunderkind and his little white dog! The closing of the exhibition on November 27th will also be the English-language launch of "The Adventures of Herge": a biography in comic form on the famous artist who illustrated the Tintin series. Illustrator Stanislas Barthelemy will be in the house on that night, as well.
