Bill Clinton is in town, and ready to do a big book signing this afternoon at Indigo Manulife Centre. His new book, Back To Work is a treatise of sorts about the importance of the government's role in America's social and economic spheres. There's also a guide of sorts in here for Democrats in running against Republicans: how-tos in the art of argument and debate, and the like. There's also plenty on Clinton's view of where his country's policy should be headed in terms of trade, economics, energy and other matters. But let's face it - Clinton's appearance this afternoon will be very well-attended, and it won't really be about the book, but the man! If you are thinking of attending, please check out the event link above, as there are some elaborate protocols and procedures in place for this special appearance.

BOOKS & LIT | Readings from Undercurrents
Tonight at Bar Italia, there will be a special reading by select poets featured in the anthology, Undercurrents: New Voices in Canadian Poetry. This collection, edited by Robyn Sarah, features poets who inhabit and interesting point in their careers: all are established, and published, but have not yet released a collection of their own work. The ages of those featured in this collection varies greatly: there is a five-decade spread between the oldest and youngest - should be interesting! Tonight, Daniel Karasik, Hamish Guthrie, Amanda Jernigan, George Pakozdi, Jason Ranon, Uri Rotstein and others will read for those in attendance.

FILM | Strangers Movie Night at the Gallery!
"Movie nights" are always fun, and Gallery 561 has one tonight! "Stangers" is an award-winning feature length film by Erez Tadmor and Guy Nattiv, that tells the story of Eyal and Ran: two lovers who meet by chance, far from home, with the 2006 World Cup as the backdrop. The two learn after falling in love that they are at odds culturally: he is Israeli, and she is Palestinean. Politics, love, and the war in Lebanon stir up what becomes a pressure cooker of a story!

Elvis Mondays continue! This is TO's original alt-rock showcase. Yes, that's right! When this music night began, the term "indie rock" simply meant "unsigned" - that's how long William New's breeding ground for local talent has been at it. Tonight you can check out Kurrupt (James from Do Make Say Think), Strangerobotix, The Johnson Report, Gynaecide, Dallas Sutherland, and People of Canada. Rock 'n' Roll!
