FILM | Toronto International Film Festival 2011
Today is the day! TIFF 2011 begins which means screenings of 300 films from over 60 countries and events that crowd international film workers into our fair city. Over the next ten days, Toronto cinephiles get to enjoy a packed schedule of movies from around the world in every genre. Want to know what is worth your time at this year's festival? Check out our must-see picks at this year's festival. Screenings begin at noon today in theatres across the city with this evening's gala film, director Davis Guggenheim's U2 doc From the Sky Down, playing at 6:30PM. Happy cinema-going!

MUSIC | Rock The Bells International Festival Series feat. Lauryn Hill and Nas
If you were wondering why Lauryn Hill was in Toronto last week, we finally have an answer. Playing the Amphitheatre tonight, Ms. Hill brings along Nas as well as DJ Premier, AZ and Pete Rock to perform her 1998 album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill in full. Nas will also play his 1994 debut album Illmatic, a definitive album regarded as one of the best in hip hop, following Lauryn's set. This could turn out to be one of the longest concerts the Amphitheatre has seen but will be a '90s throwback like no other.

PHOTOGRAPHY | Diana World Tour
Collector Allan Detrich opens his exhibit of vintage Diana cameras and their clones tonight in Toronto as part of the Detrich Collection Diana World Tour. With hundreds of cameras and the Vignettes from Coast to Coast photo exhibit that was inspired by Canadian landscapes, this event will have shutterbugs drooling. Workshops include a tour to TIFF red carpet events to shoot celebrities with Diana cameras and tonight's opening party will involve a camera auction and live entertainment. The exhibit and Diana workshops will run until the closing party on September 29th.

THEATRE | The Queens
This Mairin Smit-directed re-imagining of Shakespeare's Richard III about six women vying for England's throne opens this evening at the Helen Gardiner Phelan Playhouse. The Queens, written by Normand Chaurette, stars Claire Acott, Bronwyn Caudle, Cosette Derome, Carolyn Grace Hall, Tina Sterling and Jenna Turk as the female re-envisionings of the cunning men of Shakespeare's history play. Running until the 18th, tickets are decently priced but if you're looking for a good deal, aim for PWYC Sunday matinee performances.

TELEVISION | MTV News Impact: Riot!
The MTV Canada original series Impact explores issues that affect young Canadians and on the heels of the London riots, the Masonic Temple will open to the public tonight for a discussion about this form of dangerous protest. A live studio audience will engage in fiery debate about recent riots around the world, including the NHL-fuelled events in Vancouver from this past June. Hosted by MTV news correspondent Mike Anderson and guest Brigette DePape (of "Stop Harper" fame), panelists and audience members will discuss the mentality behind rioting and how social media plays into it.
