Radar: Public Names for Public Spaces Rally, Something In-Between, Peter and the Wolf, Mat McHugh at the Drake, How to Boil A Frog, Horseshoe Nu Music Nite

COMMUNITY | Public Names for Public Spaces Rally
If you object to Toronto becoming a big, fat sell-out, join the Toronto Public Space Initiative this evening! Meeting in front of City Hall to rally against the naming and sponsorship of public spaces, the Initiative is fighting the proposal by Mayor Rob Ford and members of city council by standing up for public names in Toronto. The TPSI is asking that all protesters wear green to show solidarity. Creative signs and friends are welcome!
Nathan Philips Square, City Hall (100 Queen Street West) 6:30PM Free

ART | Something In-Between
Toronto artist Jordan Clarke examines mixed race identity in her self-portraiture show Something In-Between. Opening today at Hang Man Gallery, Clarke's works explore the pressures on biracial women to conform gender and racial roles and the identity issues behind this. A controversial subject, the artist will be present at the opening reception on Thursday at 7PM to discuss her thought-provoking paintings with attendees.
Hang Man Gallery (756 Queen Street East) 12PM Free

THEATRE | Peter and the Wolf
Composer Sergei Prokofiev's musical story about a boy named Peter and the Wolf who accompanies him to look back on his life on the eve of his death comes to The Theatre Centre tonight. Expressionist in style, director Allyson McMackon's theatrical concept combines Prokofiev's orchestral music with acting and dancing by a talented group of Canadian artists. With only seven performances scheduled, the play closes September 11th.
The Theatre Centre (1087 Queen Street West) 7:30PM $15-$22

MUSIC | Mat McHugh
Roots and blues singer-songwriter Mat McHugh makes a stop in Toronto tonight on his international solo tour. McHugh is the former Aussie frontman of indie rock band The Beautiful Girls, who gained a great deal of attention in 2002, and now he is venturing out on his own with his 2011 solo EP Go Don't Stop. Drawing comparisons to musicians like Ben Harper and Jack Johnson, Mat McHugh's simple, mellow tunes perfectly compliment the Hawaiian soul pop singer Anuhea, who opens the show.
The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen Street West) 8:30PM $10
