FILM | The Future Screening and Q&A with Miranda July
A 30-something couple adopts a cat and their lives completely change, altering the course of time. This is the story nestled in Miranda July's second full-length feature, The Future, which premieres to Canadian audiences this evening. The film stars Hamish Linklater and July, who is also a published author in addition to being a director, actress and performance artist. This advanced public screening of July's latest, which opened earlier this year at Berlin and Sundance film festivals, will be followed by a live Q&A session with the director herself hosted by CBC Radio's Patti Schmidt. Tickets are available in advance at Queen Video (412 Queen Street West) and Soundscapes (572 College Street).

COMEDY | The Seán Pod
Gemini-nominated comedian Seán Cullen is hosting a live taping of his podcast The Seán Pod tonight at the Rivoli's Sketch Comedy Lounge. The Peterborough native, who has appeared regularly on Just for Laughs and Royal Canadian Air Farce as well as several late night American talk shows, will be hosting The Seán Pod with appearances by special guests. Musician Ron Sexsmith, comedian Pat Thornton and film critic Richard Crouse will be joining Cullen in this live chat that, soon to be available on iTunes, will put a comedic spin on social commentary.

FILM | Harbourfront Free Flicks: Lost In Translation
Sofia Coppola's critically heralded story about two travelers finding an unlikely companionship in a Tokyo hotel is this week's free flick at the Harbourfront Centre. The series has, in previous weeks, screened films about falling in love in international cities like Toronto, Paris and New Delhi, and this week's film zones in on this (debatable) love story set in Japan. Written and directed by Coppola, this 2003 film--Coppola's second full-length feature--stars Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson as the lonely-hearted pair who form a friendship in Tokyo's karaoke rooms and hotel bars. This will be one of the final chances to attend the free Harbourfront film series because next week marks the closing screening with a yet-to-be-chosen audience selection.

PLAY | Fountain Day
It's summer in the city and if the back of your neck is getting dirty and gritty, there's only one way to cool off: Fountain diving! That's right, Dundas Square is encouraging the overheated and the sweaty to come play in the geyser fountains all day today. If you've ever needed a reason to cool off or to jump in water fountains without being arrested, this is your chance. The fountains will be open to the public until late afternoon before they will be shut off to prepare for this evening's free screening of Hair at 9PM. Get soaked and then let your hair dry while watching Milos Forman's 1979 musical about a boy and his friends living deep within New York City's hippie subculture during the Vietnam War draft.
