FESTIVAL | Scotiabank Buskerfest
The St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood is going to be a veritable circus this weekend because Buskerfest is back in town! This annual festival welcomes performances from dancers, mimes, fire-eaters, musicians and magicians who specialize in entertaining on the street. The event begins this afternoon and runs through Sunday evening with tons of events, including a photography contest to win a DSLR Nikon D5100 for the best photo of buskers in action.

CONVENTION | Fan Expo Canada
Sci-fi nerds, l33t gamers, comic book fanatics and anime lovers combine forces under one roof today with the opening of Fan Expo Canada. Dozens of autograph, Q&A and photo op sessions with industry professionals like Lee Majors, William Shatner, Junko Mizuno and Tom Felton fill the weekend and the schedule is packed with other events like sketching duels, screenings and workshops. A weekend fangirls and fanboys dream about, the Expo guarantees to have something for everyone.

FILM | Near Dark: An Evening with Lance Henriksen
Golden Globe nominated actor Lance Henriksen joins the audience at Toronto Underground Cinema tonight for a screening of Kathryn Bigelow's Near Dark. The star of films such as Aliens and Pumpkinhead will participate in a Q&A session after the film with critic Richard Crouse. Henriksen, who is in town for the Fan Expo, will share his 50 years of experience working in the sci-fi and horror genres with fans and cinephiles in attendance.

MUSIC | Adam & The Amethysts Pre-Release Show
Newly signed to Kelp Records, Montreal indie pop band Adam & The Amethysts perform a pre-release show tonight at Tranzac. Playing songs from their upcoming October release Flickering Flashlight, the band that received enthusiastic reviews from multiple national papers for their 2008 debut album Amethyst Amulet will showcase their talent with a full set this evening. The show will feature their new single Prophecy, which is available for free download on Sound Cloud now.

FILM | Submarine at the Open Roof Film Festival
Oliver monitors the sex life of his parents by tracking the activity on their bedroom dimmer switch and spends his days trying to lose his virginity to his friend Jordana. This week's Open Roof Festival film is definitely open, to say the least, and as always will include a pre-screening performance, this time by Toronto funk band Yuka. Food and beer not included but absolutely available and certainly delicious.
