MUSIC | RX Bandits' farewell tour wth Maps & Atlases
The RX Bandits hit the Mod Club tonight, as part of what's being billed as a "farewell tour". Such an announcement usually this means that a band is breaking up, but in this case the band has confirmed that they are not doing so, just refraining from touring.... for the moment. Could this just be an excuse to get some buzz going, and do a tour without a new release? Do we care? Either way, fans of this band's sound, which has progressive-rock trappings with a healthy dose of ska will certainly want to catch them tonight, and not worry too much about what the future holds. Maps & Atlases from Chicago will open the show. These guys are also worth checking out: they have a math-rock thing going on at their core, but also have strong pop sensibilities.
The Mod Club (722 College Street) 6:30PM $18

FILM | "Naked World" and "If You Will Then I Will"
Studio 561 hosts two films produced by independent and emerging film makers. Emily Kieffer, currently a film student at York University, is presenting her short film, If You Will Then I Will, chronicling a couple's relations, and how the concept of 'trust' fits into the mix. Spencer Tunick's feature-length documentary, Naked World is the evening's centerpiece. This film follows Tunick around the globe, snapping nude photos of willing participants, who are also interviewed, revealing cultural differences and similarities between various regions.
Studio 561 (561 Bloor Street West) 7:30PM $10

FILM | Toronto Film Society-From Page to Screen Series
Another TFS screening goes down tonight in their "From Page to Screen" series. Tonight catch Vincent Price in the film adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthone's The House of Seven Gables. This is a riveting family drama that involves sibling rivalry, conspiracy, and murder! Our second feature tonight, The Old Dark House, features Boris Karloff during his peak "Frankenstein" years! This film is based on the novel "Benighted" by J.B. Priestley. Tonight's guest speaker is Kevin Courrier.
Carlton Cinema (20 Carlton Street) 7:30PM $15
