Radar: Smiling Antimatter, Our Green Schools Documentary Screening, Bell x1, Authors at Harbourfront Centre, and Tracing Toronto

ART | Smiling Antimatter
A special art exhibit opens tonight at the Steam Whistle Brewery. "Smiling Antimatter" is a mixed media art exhibit which addresses the futuristic theme of "antimatter" and the potential impact of science on human nature and society. The curators have characterized the artists' take on this topic as being anxiety-laden and full of "humour and carnivalesque grotesqueness." The opening night party is tonight, and the exhibit runs the entire month of June.
Steam Whistle Brewery (255 Bremner Blvd.) 7PM

FILM | Our Green Schools Documentary Screening
An interesting event featuring student made films goes down tonight at the Revue Cinema in TO's West end. "Our Green Schools" is a program that has gotten behind teams of students at five different TDSB schools, and encouraged their production of short films as a means of "explor[ing] school-based environmental initiatives." Tonight you can check out the fruits of their labour. A screening of the 2010 Planet In Focus pick, "Never Lose Sight" will follow.

MUSIC | Bell X1
Taking their name from the world's first supersonic aircraft, this Irish rock band was formed from the fallout of the band Juniper, a successful Irish act fronted by Damien Rice. Officially formed in 1999, these guys have released four very well received albums and have played many top-notch European festivals. Their 'breakthough' into the North American scene was through the use of their tune, "Eve, The Apple Of My Eye" on the TV series O.C. They hit the Mod Club tonight.
Mod Club Theatre (722 College Street) 8PM $20

LITERATURE | Authors at Harbourfront Centre: Jennifer Egan, Jen Sookfong Lee, Haley Tanner
Hosted this evening by Nathan Whitlock, the Authors at Harbourfront Centre reading series is always a great event, featuring internationally acclaimed writers, who share their work in person. It is always insightful to get a sense of the person behind the work you enjoy. Tonight, Jennifer Egan will read from her Pulitzer Prize winning novel, "A Visit From The Goon Squad." It's a real treat to be able to catch this writer "live" - she has had her work published in The New Yorker, Harper's, and has received numerous awards and recognition at the highest levels in North America. Vancouver native, Jen Sookfong Lee will share some excerpts from her novel, "The Better Mother." Haley Tanner will read from her novel, "Vaclav & Lena" a story set in New York's Russian 'ghetto'.
Brigantine Room, York Quay Centre (235 Queen's Quay West) 7:30PM $10 (FREE Under 24/Students/Members)
