MUSIC | Sloan at Sonic Boom
Sloan delivers an intimate in-store performance today at Sonic Boom in the Annex. These guys are masters at everything from catchy Beatles-esque melodies to badass riff-rock. They've been keeping it going with the artistic bar raised high for 20 years with no sign of stopping! Check out their new album, "The Double Cross" (a nod to their two decades together), and expect to hear some of it this aft! Rumour has it that there's a nice selection of Sloan on vinyl at Sonic Boom, so check it out if that's your thing!

FILM | Toronto Student Film Festival
Tonight, the showcase for the 6th annual Toronto Student Film Festival will feature some outstanding submissions from young film makers of an international scope. Established in 2006, the TSFF has attracted the work of young talent competing for exposure, and some great prizes, including scholarships, equipment, cash and more. Tonight over 20 short films will be shown, mainly from Canadian students, but also from places such as the US, Ireland, Australia, the UK and Singapore. The judging panel includes local luminaries Sarah Polley and Jane Tattersall.

MUSIC | Surface To Air
This looks to be an unusual and very promising place to be tonight. Billed by various names, the catchiest of which is clearly, "Surface To Air", this event will deliver several notable musical minds in the role of DJ: Brendan Canning of BSS, Justin Miller of DFA, plus Prince Language, and more. Expect to hear some tracks that you haven't heard before....

MUSIC | Dinosaur Bones
Dine Alone Records has put together this bill tonight, featuring their own alt-rock wunderkinds, Dinosaur Bones. Led by songwriter Ben Fox, this band has a hard hitting rhythm section, with a guitar and synth driven front end that frames lethargic, and kind of 'druggy' sounding lead vocals reminiscent of Alex Chilton. Also on the bill are Bear Hands, The Darcys, and Seas.

LITERATURE | Draft 6.6
The Draft Reading Series is an event held regularly in the Leslieville area featuring both upcoming and established writers. This afternoon's reading concludes the series' sixth season. Known also as a publication, "Draft," is printed specifically for distribution at this event, and is included with the cover charge. Today it's "Draft 6.6", and will include Michelle Alfano, Baila Ellenbogen, Catherine Graham, Kathryn Kuitenbrouwer, and Nicholas Power.

MUSIC | Kidstock 2011
Come and check out Kidstock 2011 this afternoon! This a very family-friendly event, and is ideal for those who would like to spend time with the kids, and show some support for those young ones in the community who show real musical talent. Five bands will be showcased, each made up entirely of kids between 10 and 14 years old. Young Mozart was even younger when he gave his first recital, so expect big things!

FUNDRAISER | Walk to Fight Arthritis
Arthritis is not one of those abstract diseases that you might completely avoid encountering, or never have affect anyone in your 'circle'. With over 100 different forms of this disorder, arthritis (which literally means "joint inflammation"), is very common, and can be a real problem disrupting the lives of many. Mobility and movement can become an issue, and believe it or not, arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the US. Joining this morning's walk is a great way to feel that you have contributed to a worthy cause, and it will be great exercise, too!

"Let them eat cake!" Or, better yet: let them design and create cake for us to eat! The Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts brings you The Cake Show, an annual event showcasing the latest in cake design. The heart of the show is a competition among current and former students of the College, but cake-lovers from all walks of life make their way here to check out the many demonstrations, and of course.. the bake sale!
