Yonge-Dundas square will be banging out some great entertainment for the 5th annual Desifest today! This young festival has already spread its wings across the country, with incarnations also happening in Montreal, Ottawa, and Vancouver. Its focus is on bringing in the best in international 'Desi' talent, while maintaining a stong mandate to showcase Canadian artists. MUSIC | Jacques Renault @ Wrongbar
Jacques Renault hits Wrongbar tonight for a set that is sure to keep adrenal glands working hard. Renault has made a serious name for himself since his days in Chicago as resident DJ at places like Smart Bar. He has dazzled ears and bodies at the highest levels in NYC and has tracks coming out on some very hip labels, as well as constantly making the cut on international compilations. Supporting sets will be delivered by Filthy Gorgeous and Nasty Nav.

FILM | Reel Asian Film Fest presents "Bodyguards & Assasins"
If you're into action flicks with epic combat scenes, good versus evil, great cinematography, and seeing it all on the big screen for free, then tonight's screening of "Bodyguards & Assasins" is for you! This film, presented as part of the Reel Asian Film Fest, is set in Hong Kong at the turn of the 20th century, and tells the story of a planned assassination, and a motley crew of 'ordinary' citizens who attempt to stop it. "Bodyguards & Assasins" won eight Hong Kong Film Awards last year, including Best Film.
Toronto Underground Cinema (186 Spadina Avenue) 8PM FREE

CLUBS | Lipstick, Cherry with Pat Lok
Get ready for what is hands down the sexiest and funkiest club night out there in TO! Lipstick Cherry has your retro, disco, funky cuts with that Euro-edge, new wave, and more! Special guest DJ Pat Lok will have you moving, as will resident stylus-stylist DJ Pammm. You know they're serious when they bring in someone special to do the visuals, and tonight The Blacklight Association Of Canada will be transforming your party environment into something trippy and sublime for all to enjoy.

OTHER EVENTS ON OUR SATURDAY RADAR

SUNDAY, MAY 29TH

CULTURE | Sunday Art Hop in Kensington
Pedestrian Sundays are a special time in Kensington Market. For a large chunk of the day, it's foot travel only, and one cannot help but enjoy and appreciate this special part of our city even more when it's car-free! Today it's the first Pedestrian Sunday of the year, and the area's many art galleries and shops will open their doors and welcome your visit. It's a great time to browse, buy, or simply make some connections in the community.
Kensington Market 12 to 6PM FREE

MUSIC | The Radio Dept @ The Horseshoe
Swedish dream-pop band, The Radio Dept. plays The Horseshoe tonight. Although their last 'official' release was 2010's "Clinging To A Scheme", they released their collection "Passive Aggressive: Singles 2002-2010" in January of this year, which contains all released singles, and some additional B-side material. Beginning the proceedings this evening is Nightbox.
The Horseshoe Tavern (370 Queen Street West) 8PM $18

LITERATURE | Another Spring: A Poetry Matsuri
Another great Pedestrian Sunday 'happening' to be enjoyed in Kensignton Market: the launch of "Another Spring", a special piece written for Japan by all of 27 poets, including Liz Howard and Jenny Samprisi. There will be a group reading of the piece by its authors, plus spontaneous readings, and other celebratory activities, including custom Haiku created just for you for only $2!
Pineapple Kensignton (2 Kensington) 2PM FREE

CULTURE | The Brewery Market
This afternoon launches the Brewery Market - a series of Sunday afternoon "beer events" taking place throughout the Summer at Wychwood Barns, each featuring a different microbrewery. Visitors get a chance to try the beer, meet the brewers in person, and to get a realistic sense of the beverage - context is everything - pizza will be available, courtesy of The Stop Community Food Centre. This afternoon's featured brewery is Flying Monkeys, hailing (or should we say ale-ing?) from Barrie, Ontario.
Artscape Wychwood Barns (601 Christie Street) 1PM FREE
